Punctured My Fuel Tank

Are you going to build a steel plate to help protect that area? Now that it is patched even a weaker stick might re-puncture that spot again and cause your more problems.

Mine only has the 'hood' tank. Holds about 20g ( may be closer to 19g.. ?? )

I don't put to much faith in my fuel indicator. I have all but run out of fuel with about 1/4 showing on the gauge.

I make a habit of refueling the tractor when iput it away for the day.

Yes, I will fabricate a protective plate to protect the tank and fuel pump.

Attached is a picture of the offending stick, which is actually a small tree, roots and all. I don't know whatkind of tree it is, but boy is it a tough little bugger!

Here's a side shot of the root that punctured the tank. I could smell the deisel fuel still on it.

Yup, that is a tree.

Send that pic to Deere and ask them why they don't build those tractors so you can just run over things like that. They should know how we need to use them in the 'real' world. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad to see you found a proper place for that bad thing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

And the fix looks real good. Hope all will be well with it.

Update:

It has been nearly a month and my $5.00 fuel tank repair is still holding. Been running the tractor harder than ever too. Beats a new $600.00 tank.....so far... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is amazing - I had the exact same incident with my 5105, extept instead of puncturing fuel tank, I knocked off the fuel sensing unit - cost me around 400 total to replace everything.

BUT DO I HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS FOR YOU!

I custom made an armored plate that mounts under my 5105 - it was already drilled/tapped for the mounting bolts. Every now and then I can hear a "bong" where something strikes the place and I KNOW I just saved a couple of large bills....

If you want to call me I can probably send you some pics of my plate, and I'll help in any way. No one makes one youc an buy, you have to build it yourself. I just PMd you with my telephone number. Do you think there would be a commercial need for these plates?
