Pushing Water Uphill: PTO pump or HF Predator?

It looks like you are using ball valves.

I switched about a half dozen garden valves and faucets to ball valves several years ago. Some are horizontal and some are vertical. I lose about one a year to freezing that cracks the housing beside the ball. I do drain the lines and leave the valves about half open or fully closed after draining to try to not trap water inside the ball housing. Still some water gets trapped inside, freezes, and cracks. It may be due to lots of rain, then condensation building up inside.

Well, shoot, I picked (expensive) metal ball valves on purpose for their durability and low restriction. And everything is designed for gravity drain. I hadn't thought water would get behind the metal ball.

you may want to consider painting the exposed pvc pipes. i have pvc for a sump pump exposed, it got a bit brittle after 5-7 years

is the blue poly, pex? if so that definitely needs to be covered. pex will crack in short order in the sun

Not pex. Blue poly; usually buried. Don't know how well they'll do in the sun. When I bought a bunch it was stacked in rolls out in the sun. I am wondering if I need to go and paint everything just for UV protection. Rattle-can silver on the blue poly won't be hard and will blend with the fence. All that white PVC? That would be a bummer to go back and paint it white.

This is the way we do all our ball valves and have not had any issues, how ever if you turn them to full on , it will trap water between the outer housing and ball.

Thanks for the education. Seems counter-intuitive. I was just gonna leave them wide open. As I paid $45 for the 1 1/2 valves, I think I'll be paying attention!
