Putting on 3PT Implements

I'm doing my best to put some money aside for a FEL. The dogs will finally have a proper kennel by the end of the spring so I can get them out of my barn. Hopefully that was the last episode of "shuffle that implement."

Hi Rob,

I just put on my tiller for the first time. What I did was back up until one of the lower arms was pretty well aligned. Raised and lowered the arm until it was vertically okay, then got off and just wiggled the tiller slightly to get the pin it. You'd be surprised how easy you can wiggle a 500+ lb. implement just a little bit. Then I adjusted the height of the rear arms, with the rockshaft lever, until the other looked pretty close, and did the same thing.. simply wiggled the implement until the pin would go in. After that, the top link is a cinch.. just extent or retract it until it's lined up.

Maybe I got lucky! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I've never had a problem, as long as I was willing to monkey around for a few minutes.

Getting the PTO shaft connected was a bit trickier.. because it didn't want to go on. A little help from this forum and I had it. Then I tilled a half-ache (typo.. was supposed to be a half-acre /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif) in no time at all. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Good luck.. let us know how you make out!

Bob

The best advice I can give is to go spend $30 on a six-foot digging bar. I use this when attaching implements to pry and move the implements around. It's surprising how easy it is to move a heavy implement with a little leverage.

Any special tricks for getting the PTO connected or knowing when it is on right?

With the new ROPS on my B6100 replacing the PTO shroud it is a VERY tight fit to get an implement hooked up to the PTO. What I found works for me in hooking up my tiller is the following:

1) I hook up the lower lift arms by like others have said, getting it clost and then "nudging" the tiller around until I can get them both hooked up. Leave the 3ph down (tiller resting on its tines).

2) Separate the two ends of the tiller PTO shaft at the "slip joint" splines. (I now have the tractor end of the PTO shaft, the U joing and about 6" of spline separated)

3) Hook up the tractor end of the PTO shaft. (much easier since the implement end is completely free - and only 6" long)

4) Roll the tiller back away from the tractor (It's pretty easy because it rotates around the tiller tines.), line up the slip joint and roll the tiller forward seating the slip joint.

5) Attach the top link (tiller will still easily rotate forward and back). and away I go.

Check the recent thread about PTO shaft attachment.. there was a lot of good advice given in that.

Bottom line for me was to determine which type I had (some have button to push, some have collars to pull), and then I used liberal amounts of a good grease on all surfaces. Finally it slipped right on. While applying the grease, you will also be making sure no little rocks or whatever might have ended up in the mechanism, and can examine it closely.

When it is on right, you won't be able to pull it off the tractor.. you will need to use the collar, button, etc., to remove it. Give it a good tug and make sure it's locked on there. Oh, make sure you have good footing before giving this good pull, just in case it isn't locked on correctly. Don't ask how I happen to think of mentioning this. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Expect to get very greasy, especially your first time.. and wear suitable clothing. Don't ask. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

HTH,
Bob
