You can paint them with clear Krylon if you don't like the orange look, and the wifey will never know unless you get caught.!:D

That's why I like you James. You are devious!!! :drink:

Yes, it's bent about 10-15 degrees. Not sure if it's a casting or a forging but either way, it will be a challenge and I will post the result and how it was done. Thanks again for the elegant corrective action!

I feel your pain!
Did your right side pin come out?

IMG_0044 (Medium).JPGIMG_0046 (Medium).JPGOvrszd, your spring setup is a nice improvement, looks like a factory job. I went out and looked at my pins, and while it's a similar arrangement, there isn't room enough to do a spring thing. I thought that a tight fitting o-ring would serve to give the locking pin enough friction to stay in place. I couldn't find the right size o-ring, but I found a couple of rubber grommets that fit. I must say that I've been using this loader for ten years, 1100 hours, and neither pin has ever come out on it's own. That said, if I didn't take your advice and secure them, one would be sure to pop out tomorrow. I believe it's called Karma...

Thanks for the compliments guys, but we owe this modification to gullageje, he suffered the pain for our gain. wmonroe, you must be slightly OCD like me. Nope, I didn't use stainless steel springs, but if mine rust I'll swap them out. Can't have that!!!! ;)

My wife has called me OCD before, not sure I buy it but it would kill me to have rusty springs on the tractor.

Paint them.

I might try painting them. I was afraid the paint would flake off when the spring was compressed and relaxed.

Sorry to see what happened to gullagej's tractor, bummer man!
After seeing what could happen if that pin comes out ( who would have thought) I'm going to give it a go.
ovrszd awesome cheap fix ! nice pic's too
I Like your chain box, might just have to look into one of those too!

My wife has called me OCD before,

I am not comfortable with the OCD label either.... around our house we refer to OCT's... Obsessive Compulsive Tendencies! But serectly, in my own little mind, I accept my condition.

Excuse me while I park exactly parallel and centered in the parking space, with the front wheels straight.

By the way... excellent and easy mod... seems like it should come from the factory that way. Great work, great documentation and write up.

My brother has my 5740 in his shop doing some work on it and he is going to modify the pins on it, my son will be doing it on our 8540 when the weather improves,

Yes Sir, I'm a firm believer in Karma!!!

I like your setup. The pin has to jump farther to get out of the slot. The chances are extremely small. But then, Karma.

I tried the O-ring thing and believe it would work fine. Only concern was the o-ring degrading and falling off. Grommet would last longer. Great idea.

Yep, chain box is a must have. Holds 4 chains, a screw pin clevis and a couple hitch pins.

Do you have some pics of the chain box?
