Maybe this is a dumb question, but are there any conventions that are pretty well followed as far as hydraulic quick disconnects go? I know that there are myriad types of QD, but are there conventions about male end vs. female end, etc.

The particular application that makes me wonder is my project adding a loader to my Massey 1215. I've put a hose in the hydraulic line with QD's, and I got to debating with myself whether the male end should be the pressure side or whether the female end should be the pressure side. Is there some generally held view as to which is best?

I suppose this will be like the household outlet debate whether the ground should go up or down.

Are there other conventions? It seems most QD's in pairs are mounted one atop the other. Is there some commonality where the top is the retract and the bottom the extend or visa versa?

I don't know if it really matters where the male or female goes, but in your application, I know a lot of people around here will swap the male and female around between the 2 hoses. That way, when they go to hook up, they don't have the lines reversed.

That's how I plan to do it.

I've got the flow coming out the male end and into the female end. This is true whether I'm talking about the loader side or the tractor side. Then I can't get the hoses mixed up.

With a remote that's run with a valve, I know it will be different since the pressure out will change depending on which way the valve is moved.
