Question about Digging Post Holes

/ Question about Digging Post Holes #31
I bought the TSC PHD. I have put in well over 600 posts with it and it is still in good working order. I am on my second bit though... mainly due to rocky/clay soil. When you purchase a bit be sure to get one that is heavy duty... you can tell because they are double walled in the area it bolts to the gear box shaft. I egged out the first bit that was a std duty. The second one is HD and is holding up great. IMO no need to buy the more expensive drill for occasional or limited use.

I've never tried it on the smaller posts, but we put corners and braces in with fel. Use auger smaller than tie or phone pole and push it in with dirt filled fel bucket. I don't know if your Kubota has enough weight, but it might be worth a try on a post or two. It takes a real plumb hole.

Flusher,

( Unfortunately, my B7510HST has only about 5 gpm capabilty at its auxiliary hydraulic taps, so I'm a little small for either option. Have to go with PTO-driven PHD. )

My Shaver HD8 only requires 4 gpm. I suspect that similar units will have similar requirements. Keep in mind that all the hydraulics do is lift the hammer. Gravity (and a couple of springs) is what actually makes it fall.
