   / Question for 2520/Backhoe Owners #22
Runner,

Let the dealer put the hoe together and mount it on the tractor. They shouldn't charge you anything for doing that, they get reimbursed for labor from JD. Now that you bought the hoe, you need to get Chris2520 to make you a set of pads for the hoe. The ones from JD aren't the greatest in the world. I had Chris make me a pair and they are better made than what you would get from JD. That being said, Chris posted pics of his pads earlier, maybe he can send you some pics of the pads. They work great on the street and also on ground.

Runner,

I hate to take credit but I started the problems with the tire clearance with JD. I actually punctured a front tire. Yes I have turf tires installed, so they used to hit the front bh subframe brackets. JD made a set of brackets to replace the original BH brackets, and the tires do not rub anymore. From what I was told by my JD dealer, I have the only set of brackets so far. I don't know when JD will make these brackets available to everyone. I'll get some pictures of the new brackets posted soon.

I'd like to see some photos of these brackets. I have turfs and would like to buy a 46 hoe, but I'm worried about this rubbing.

Wow first time I hear about this problem and the 46BH... I have had my 46 for more than 3 years now on my 4110 with turf tires and had no tires rubbing what so ever. I would like to see those brakcets though so I can compare to what I have on my 4110 now.

The 46 came out a while back, it sure was many years before the 2520 came out

I did some more research and found this thread with photos: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/jd-owning-operating/85506-46-bh-subframe-front-tire.html

I'll have to check my FEL frame/tire clearance with one front wheel higher than the other, but I seem to have more clearance than what is shown in the photos. I ran tire chains on all 4 wheels this winter (lots of ice here) and the chains just barely rub at full steering lock while on level ground.

From the photos in the thread I linked to, it looks as though it might be possible to relocate the U-bolt inwards an inch or more and then cut off the resulting "extra" material from the BH bracket in order to gain some clearance. I haven't seen a 46BH installed on a 2520 up close and personal, so I may be wrong. You can bet I'll I'll be discussing this issue with my dealer before I purchase my BH!

Certainly worth a look, but I was having a hard time finding a 3rd party backhoe with a subframe for tractors as small as the 2520 - plenty of "4-point" hoes for the larger frames and Woods is a certainly a good brand, but I was a bit leery about just a 3PH backhoe without a subframe and even the ones with a subframe for the larger models weren't nearly as beefy-looking as the JD subframe for the 2520.

Woods lists a 4-point sub-frame mount for the 2520 that appears to work with the mid mount mower. (says sub-frame can be installed with mower attached)
