I would recommend calling the power co. It's safer and a good pruning won't hurt the tree anyway. We had one here that I had the power co. trim and I asked them to trim off all the lower branches at the same time since they were brushing the top of my canopy when I mowed. They were more than happy to oblige. I think they like using that hydraulic pruner myself, know I would.
