Quick Connect trouble

The flat face stay cleaner, and have less internal resistance, which means less heat, more (tiny bit more) HP.

Downside is you have to convert all of your PTO coupleres. For me that runs to 10 couplers, which adds up....

Carl, a few years back an autoparts store tried to get me to change my compressed air fittings to their "standard" because it was the "standard". I resisted and have since found my "nonstandard" fittings in Lowes, Northern and still sold at Sears where I originally purchased it. I would not change for the non-standard reason.

It is the standard. :) Lots of detail on their website.
Yes, it is one of the most common, if not the most common.

You could just buy whatever Northern Tool or Gemplers is selling, and then you would have the "standard". You would also have a source that you know you could probably get more from.

The flat face connectors are available from another reliable source, McMaster Carr. I recommend reading their pages on hydraulic hose and couplers.

All the best,

Peter

So, is Parker any good and are they fairly common?

Carl, even though they are my direct competition, I will say that anything Parker is good stuff. They don't make junk.

Ponytug, you can put flush face on your PT and get adapters to whatever is on your attachments. Then, as the qd's on your attachments go bad, you can replace them with flush face. Check Welcom to Holmbury. They have the adapters.

So WCH... Who do you sell?

I ask because this is a big hose store I go to (they handle all heavy equipment / logging equipment for people who do not have staff repair services).

I am interested in Flat Face, just really have to contemplate the savings vs cost

Dear WCH,

Great point, but wouldn't all I would need is a M&F set of flat face? I already have the others., i.e. when I take it off of the PT, the PT fitting goes on the one of the flat face, the other flat face goes on the PT, and then it is as if the flat face never happened. As I convert others, I just need a single pair of flat face per implement.

So... how much cleaner are they really? How much less oil to do the really spill? Comments?

All the best,

Peter

Woodlandfarms,
I guess I'm missing why you want to change them?

The male one you gave the part number for is $8.50 and the matching female is less than $20.00 at Bailey's on P68 of their PDF catalog.

Bailey's has been around a long time. I've purchased from them before, including the quick connects like you currently have, only a smaller size for my PT425.

If you are replacing quick disconnect, how about getting some of the flat-faced minimal-spill kind? They are expensive, but if you have to pay to replace your QD anyways, reportedly they allow more flow and are easier to clean.

You can see them on page 279 of the Macmaster-carr catalog.
McMaster-Carr

The flat faced of the same size as the original flow 3GPM LESS than the original.

Carl, I sell Holmbury. Probably because that's who my supplier dealt with when I opened. I also have some Parker stuff. (shhhh, don't tell Weatherhead) For the weekend user like you, flat face probably isn't worth the cost of converting. They are almost drip-less. It is rumored that the EPA or whoever regulates this stuff is going to require drip proof q.d.'s in the near future. We can't have any oil dripping on the ground you know. I wonder where oil came from?

Ponytug, yes, you only need one set per attachment. I am with MossRoad on this, and how could I miss these in my favorite catalog, Bailey's.

Flat face are more expensive because they are rated for higher pressure. On anything hydraulic, more pressure equals more money. If your unit doesn't require the pressure rating, you don't need them. Flat face will last longer, but in my experience I have found more q.d.'s getting broken rather than worn out. So, it's your decision.
