Picked up a used Pronovost snow blower a few months ago and haven't been able to get the quick coupler to lock onto the PTO shaft. It slips over the shaft ok but the balls inside the coupler don't seem to retract enough to allow the coupler to lock onto the shaft. The spring on the coupler operates freely and the balls roll around inside. I tried soaking the coupler in penetrating oil. It looks clean.....Any ideas?

Thanks Kev... I'd have to find someone else who would buy a broken snowblower.... :)

Is it the type with a collar that you pull back. If so try pulling turning wiggling pushing that collar

Yes. ... the collar slides in/out smoothly. Inside the collar there's a brass ring that the balls ride in an that turns fine too. I tried turning that ring and pulling back the collar while pushing the coupler onto the shaft but those balls keep the coupler from securing to the shaft. I tried tapping the coupler with a hammer but it's not going on.

I think the collar is made of some kind of hard plastic, so putting a torch to the coupler may create other problems.

The previous owner was running the blower with a smaller NH tractor. Although the coupler lines up fine with the Kubota shaft, I'm wondering if maybe the ridges on the Kubota shaft are deeper or in some fashion different from the NH?? ...I'm pulling this out of my arse though..

Problem solved...found a few posts from 2006 where someone was having the same problem. The inner brass sleeve that houses the locking balls has to be pulled back to release the balls. I was pushing the outer plastic sleeve forward thinking that that would release the balls.. Thanks again for the help.
