Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
I was at the local hydraulics shop getting my fittings and hoses for my new remote valve. I got a real shock when he priced out quick disconnects for me. $29 per female quick disconnect! About $55-$60 for a set - female and male.

They were shiny and silver and beautiful looking and had a "Made In Sweden" on them. I'm just wondering what the difference would be in quality of a set of these vs. a set from TSC - both male and female are $20 and they are steel - interchangable with Pioneer 4000.

I'd like to support the hydraulics shop as they have been very helpful with hoses and fittings but unless there is a good reason for me to go for the $60 ones, I might have to get the cheapo ones at TSC.

To top this off, its not like I plan to take my top and tilt cylinders off anyway ... so don't ask me why I am getting QDs to begin with.

Thoughts?

Smarter folks than I will chime in, but what I've read, not all QD are the same. The cheaper ones will leak. Quality ones will last a very long time. I imagine those are pretty good (a real pro will have to verify) and if the shop has been good to you, I'd pay the extra bucks.

The Pioneer couplers are good stuff...JD uses them from the factory.
The ones at the hydraulic shop may have been Flat-Face style and/or connect-under-pressure couplers witch definatly cost more.

I say go for the TSC ones with a good quality Teflon based paste like Locktite #565

Kenny, can I make that image you show my avatar?

There was a thread a while back about some inferior TSC qd's. But, kennyd is right again and I have never known him to steer anyone the wrong way.

Do you guys think that I will be fine with the TSC pioneer QDs and the yellow tape they sold me me at the hydraulic shop? I'm going to have to go about looking for some paste otherwise and I'd rather be getting my remote together than shopping for paste :)

If the tape has worked for you in the past, keep using it. The most important thing I have found is if it works, stick with it until something better comes along.

Hey WCH. This is a first for me - I'm a hydraulic noob. Guess since i have the tape already, might as well try it.

I have used QDs from my area Parker store and also from TSC for years. I have never had any problem with either one.

I picked up 3/8 QDs - male and female set for $21 each at a farm supply store up here.

They are Parker Pioneer - steel fittings. Not nearly as shiny or beautiful as the Swedish ones at the hydraulic store but at 1/3 the price, I couldn't justify paying the extra amount. Now that I've had a chance to compare, the Swedish ones at the hydraulic store must have been stainless steel. They were a work of art and shone brilliantly and probably were worth their price.... just don't think that I need them.
