R1s or R4s?

Alright than, always thought the big debate was tween r1's and r4's? but guess some think them turf tires are the best thing for traction??

[see,I told you this was the 64,000 dollar question. pretty soon somebody who has steel tires will tell us that they are the best]

"Best thing for traction"? No. Definitely not.

Better on ice. Better on snowfalls smaller than 6".

Best thing for traction outside the two above conditions: R1. However, they leave marks on soft grass and can dig quite a hole if not used carefully on turf.

Best thing on concrete: R4. Ride better than R1 and do better in mud than Turf, but are distinctly poor on ice. And I'd rather turf than R4 on packed gravel.

But no...never said Turf was the cure-all for "traction".

Honestly, in my first post, I was just trying to add perspective...only that turfs have a place in the world and aren't only for golf course greens. Didn't mean it to turn into a thing.

Well for me the debate is over. Ordered a new B2320 w/FEL and R1s. I know that they'll work for most of my needs. The dealer said they can deliver by the weekend. I'm excited no matter what tires are on it! Thanks for all the relies. It certainly was an interesting topic.

So I tell the dealer that I want the R1s and he tells me that they don't have any in stock! Now I have to wait until UPS delivers them and then I can get my tractor. I'm not sleeping very well! Again, thanks for all the opinions.

The R1's will be worth the wait...You'll be glad you got em!

I heard r1's cost less, might want to ask him about that too.

I second what johnk say. Its worth the wait, happiness will follow:D

Ya know I never considered R4s. and it cost me a week long wait for my tractor!

The dealer only had R4's on the tractors in stock.
Then they had to wait around for R1s!!!

This winter we had a single real snow fall of 1 foot.
the R1's were GREAT!!!

And I have dug some real nice holes with them too!!!!

Have you ever spun all 4 in 4wd and had the differential locked?

now that was a task! and I did not stall the tractor out!!!

and now I return you to the by monthly R1-R4-Turf discussion...

:)

If I hadn't been in such a hurry[for no reason],to get this tractor home,I woulda told them to put r1's on mine.

But,[this is my first experience with r4's on a farm type tractor],after using them for a while now,I think, for me,they are best tire.

It depends on what your using your tractor for, conditions, etc.

Like I have said, there are advantages too both.

Just like a turf tire,if you were mowing yards or golf courses and maybe clearing your drive of a little snow, than they probably would be your best choice.

r1's with out a doubt provide better traction in mud and deeper snow.

R4's are tougher[well],are wider for better stability and if loaded, really help in this. Don't leave as deep a ruts as ags in places you don't want ruts.

On ice,ag's you would think would be the worst of the three[without chains],and with chains all three would probably be about equal, but the wider ones might be better there.

Just depends on what your using your tractor for, mainly.
