R4 to R1 swap $$$

Buy new. Expensive, yes. But, they are new, 100% tread, and you know where they have been. Sell the R4's on the open market. The tractor dealer needs to make his money off a trade; he can not give you what you would get by just selling them.

Only thing is, then you have to get the new tires and rims, on the tractor before you can sell the R4's, unless you want the tractor sitting on jackstands for a while

You're dealer sounds like a shyster (Shyster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and I would start looking for somewhere else to spend my money. Maybe even cancel the BH, tires and what ever else and start looking for a new tractor.

Coobie-

You are the man!! That is roughly what I had figured in my little pea brain but was striking out find the supporting data.

Did you specify anything on the R1s? Brand, ply, pattern 23 vs 45 degree?

I'll let you know how things unfold.

Called dealer today to pin him down on the used Ags. Well he is actually selling them for a customer that changed to industrials. So this guy is asking $400 for the set, whooped as they are.

Shared with dealer that the fronts are in bad shape and asked for price for a new complete set. He is working up a quote for this and getting back to me.
He then just came out and said new front Ag tires are $110 each.

Now what to do? Buy used R1s and use until need replacing. Buy used set and exchange the well used front for new fronts and have back ups. Buy complete new set and let him keep the used set. All these options involve me keeping R4s and selling outright on own.

Any suggestions? I have an inclination but want to here from the more experienced members here.

I would buy the r1's as cheap as possible and keep the r4's.

Having both would be great for versatility. They are going on different rims aren't they?

Absolutely. I am talking 2 complete sets; tires and rims. One R4s on the tractor now that have 80 hours on them. The second is the well used R1s with gashes in 1 of the fronts. The R1 hours are unknown. Allegedly they have less than 200 hours. I say if that is true they were run on the pavement most of the time.

I don't know how much pavement you may have to be on but the R4's with chains in dirt will give you great traction.
