Tractor
LS 4047
Not sure when it happened or if it was always that way and not noticed, but I found two of the bolts that hold the loader frame onto the tractor were sheared off. They picked it up for me on Saturday. I need to call and find out how that's coming. I also gave them a small list of other things:
- cannot put pins back into both sides of rops or the fold down grill. Likely when something got tightened it wanted to twist and was able to do so after I unpinned them.
- have a small hydraulic leak at the loader qd valves. Likely just wasn't tightened down well enough.

Seems there was something else as well. I'll check my notes

Yup, there was one other thing. Another small item. The screws that
hold on the protective cover plate over the hydraulic lines on the loader cross member were backing themselves out. Needs some locktite. No biggie.

Keep us posted on the warranty work. Dont know what to say about the loader frame bolts shearing off. I would think the 6" pines you mentioned would not cause that. Maybe they werent fully tightened at the dealership. With that said, when I get my 4047, I will go over every nut and bolt.

Sub, if I'm not mistaken someone else on here had a couple loader bolts on their LS shear off. I think it was from over tightening. On my ROPS I found that the holes for pinning it in the down position are not lined-up.

This brings to mind an important point for all new tractor owners. At 10 hours use, I always recommend re torqing loader mounting bolts and wheel lug nuts. Then again at 20 hours. These bolts can streatch with use, even after being torqed originally. Once the loader bolts work loose, the loader frame will be able to move and put extra strain on remaining bolts. This may have nothing to do with sublifers issue, as he has not had his tractor long at all, and I'm glad the dealer is already responding, but retorqing will often prevent this type of failure.

Just looked and it was kpbeddin that had this problem on his i3030. Check your bolts everyone!

I had some wheel bolts come out and some come loose on my $85g tractor after 250 hours so it happens to everyone. My brother has a JD compact and when he got his new the pins didn't line up on the foldable ROPS either. I don't like hearing about quality issues but it's to be expected. Having to wait a month for parts is not expected or acceptable.

Boy i agree with what your saying!! I have purchased new cars and truck and have found things that were wrong shortly after buying them, and tractors are no exception. But waiting a month for the parts to fix them is not acceptable! Its the one big thing that I drilled my dealer on when buying my tractor..available parts and quick service turn around. I guess we will see

I called to check on my tractor today. The bolts came in yesterday and they expect to have the tractor ready tomorrow afternoon. Said LS had issued a service change so while they have it they are going to do that as well. Something about rerouting hydraulic hoses for the loader valve.

I do remember someone else having the sheared bolts on the loader. Have to watch if it happens to more people... I do have about 20 hours on it so it sounds like they could have worked loose and then got sheared. No way to tell for sure what happened though

anyway, this may have cost me a day of work but I'm glad they're getting it fixed so soon. I'll update after I get it back. I feel kinda bad about how dirty it was when they picked it up. Probably had an extra 100lbs of ballast from the mud on the axles. Haha

Hey, tractors are supposed to get dirty. I do give mine a hosing off occassionally though.

They're taking it back out to my property today. I'm excited to go play with it but with work and a few other things going on I won't get to see it for another 3 days... :(

Hey everyone, I was the one who also had the sheered bolts. I was able to find them in my yard a few days later. Based on my examination of the threads , one must have worked loose. This in turn weakened everything until both sheared off. Both were found in close proximity of each other and both had clean fresh breaks. I hardly crank my tractor now without checking those bolts. As mentioned earlier, we must pay real close attention to the wheels. I should have updated my thread on this; I hope this information helps.

Yup, time for me to put together a toolkit for the tractor. Need to figure out what all size wrenches and sockets and screwdrivers and all... After I get it figured out I'll post a thread for it as I'm sure it'll help someone else

Hey sub, I too have had similar problems with my 4020 . After working with the loader for about a hour today i noticed a hydraulic leak at the same qd valve, it was as you said a nut that was not tighten down. Also after i finish i checked the loader bolts a three were already coming loose. Minor stuff that we should all keep a eye on.

Finally got around to checking the loader bolts on on my S3010. None were falling out, but I was able to easily tighten up about 4 of them. The sizes were 19mm, 22mm, and then I had to go to SAE (need to get a bigger set of metric wrenches), about 15/16s or so.

No problems with mine ;)

No problem with mine either, but for everyones info Harbor freight has a sale on now for extra large 3/4 drive sockets.sets, that include sockets, extension bar, Rachet and breaker bar. I bought some a while back and used them to tighten the lift pin bolts on my Brother in law bush hog. We were standing on the breaker bar and jumping up and down and nothing broke so I would say they are for sure worth the $49. It think they start at about an 1" to 2" in SAE and 25-50mm. I got a set of each for my farm use.

So, is this a daily/weekly chore to check everything that has threads, or is this a job for locktite?

Day: I'd say it'd be a good thing to check on a daily or weekly basis until the tractor has been broken in. Some locktite might aid but I wouldn't use red as the loader frame probably has to come off for certain maintenance stuff.

So, got to play on the tractor for a day since I got it back. I took all my tools to try to see what sizes I'd need for my kit. I didn't realize my socket set was so small... I didn't have anything above 17mm so I'm gonna have to pick some bigger ones up. Thanks for the info Gary, I'll be sure to swing by and take a look.

I don't have my notes with me but I tried sockets in sizes I had an I tried to measure the ones I didn't (w/ tape measure as I didn't bring a caliper so its iffy) but if I recall, I used 12, 13, 17mm and maybe one or two smaller ones and then I think I measured 22, 28, and 36mm. But don't quote me yet, thats from memory and some potentially bad measurements. Def. gonna put a crescent wrench or two in my kit as well.

Also, they moved the loader hose attach spot... its kind of strapped to the loader frame instead of the ports sticking straight out in a block. Looks neater but if I remove the loader there'd likely be hoses hanging from the frame. I'll post a pic when I can. Oh, and still seems to leak a little. Looks wet with oil but I'll have to clean it up and then work it to see if its fresh.

I kinda assumed whoever is putting the loaders on in the States were doing a half-a$$ed job, but maybe they come from Korea with the FELs on them. I wouldn't think so as the loaders are generally options. I don't expect to have to do it on a on-going basis, but will re-check after playing around with the grapple some and report back.
