Well you guys were right on about the angle of the teeth.

SMACK!! That was me hitting my forehead...a big DUH!

I dumped the loader attachment I made all the way, and the teeth were close to the angle that they were intended to be used at.

I let them dig in all they wanted and they worked fine. They really could not go more than 3-4", because of the angle iron running on the ground in this position. I'm tempted to leave it this way cause the angle acted just like guage wheels to keep the teeth even. But the loader cylinders were fully extented to acheive this....not good. I will probably afix the teeth at a different angle to the angle.

I said "probably" because yesterday I purchased this landscape rake. I is 7". Cat I, but pretty rugged. It is 3- 4 years old and has been used only twice.
Has guage wheels. I gave $300 for it. I guess from what I read in this forum, the wheels alone can cost this much, so I consider it a good buy.

Sorry, I'm a bit late replying.
I think Schmism has the right idea re the angle of the teeth for what you want to do. The springtooth harrow was for ground tillage and it does a great job at that with the teeth at that angle. I haven't used mine a whole lot, and I haven't broken any teeth yet. I cobbled this up on a Saturday morning from an old horse drawn harrow that's been in the family for at least 60 years and it did have a few broken teeth. As Ron says, welding the spring teeth is probably a no -no.
Attached are 4 pics of my setup (nice paint job, eh?).
Your new landscape rake should do the job for you.

Thanks for the pics "Choker Of Herring". Your paint job looks fine to me. That's about the color I use also. It matches the rust real well.:D
