Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins-opinions

Explain same transmissions? Both of mine have been flawless pulling heavy loads.

This could easily turn into the type of debate that's as heated as politics/religion and I have no desire to take it there. I'm glad your transmissions have held up and I hope mine holds up as well if I buy a Ram. But Dodge/Ram transmissions have long carried a negative stigma for a reason, and FCA has made improvements, but stopped short of the only thing that would appease the masses: putting a different transmission in their trucks. I would be surprised if this really is the first you're hearing of Ram transmission issues. I thought it was a universally known & accepted flaw.

Please know I'm not trying to trash the Ram. As I said multiple times I'm considering buying one, and there are high points and low points of all the trucks out there. There's no need to fixate on this one low point of this one truck. I think enough has been said about it already and by the way, it's not "my words." I'm quoting other owners. I don't own one, so I'm not speaking with authority like you are. If you have flawless performance that's a good data point. There are other data points.

I don't think a manual tranny is available in a Ram any longer,

It was as of 3 or 4 months ago, I priced one out. Has it changed for the 2019 model? I hope I haven't screwed around and missed my chance...

I have a 14 with 88K miles. The Dodge truck part of the mix has surprised me with how well it works and how comfortable it is. Visibility from the cab is really good, ride is decent for an 8K pound truck, mileage averages about 17.5mpg. The Cummins has not had any problems other than a water pump replaced under recall, maintenance is pretty expensive, but the emissions part of the mix just plain sucks. DPF and DEF systems have both been replaced under recall, numerous other recalls (have three open now), and now the check engine light is back on, used 2 gallons of DEF in the last two weeks, and power is down by half. Trying to get it scheduled in to get it fixed, but the dealer is backed up as usual and no loaners. I would delete it but am thinking about trading it in on a 3500 DRW next month.

Take a look at the 19 ram 1500’s. They have a new body style and interior. It is very nice. The 2500s are supposed to be updated on the 2020 models. I hate buying a new truck and then a new body style comes out the next year and all of a sudden my truck feels old.

I bought a 19 1500 for a daily driver. I have a F450 to tow heavy loads with. Not sure if the 1500 will be enough truck for you or not but if you really like the body style you may consider driving your tundra another year and getting the new style 2500 when the come out.
