No doubt that Toyota has earned the quality reputation. But other brands aren't that far off these days. I've had several Rams with almost no actual issues (yes, a few minor recalls for stupid things). Only actual problem was a broken exhaust stud on the 1500's 5.7L Hemi fixed under warranty. Also have had several Toyota vehicles (and one Lexus) and they have their share of random minor recalls too. All in all, my experience has been a wash with both of them. Now Jeeps from the early 2000's, don't get me started... But with 2010+ models they are pretty much all good.

I'm really surprised that Toyota hasn't made a 3/4 or 1-ton truck yet. That's a big market share to try for.

Rob

I was trying to hold out for a 3/4 ton Toyota, but the demands of my side work just became too much.

The HD market is well covered by the big three and Toyota sells what maybe a 1 million units or so.

Really got excellent equity when I traded in my Tundra (2014 CM) for the 6.2L F2550 XLT.
Do I miss the Tundra, oh you bet I do.
But towing anything over 8k is best handled with a 3/4t.
Looks like you got a laramie or a Big Horn? Truck looks nice. If my need demanded a diesel it would have been the Cumming simply because a cab removal on a Super Duty would be a deal breaker for me. Before you Ford guys jump in I get it. It is an awesome engine.
All a matter of one's personal comfort factor.

So congrats on the new oil burner, enjoy.
There are a few channels on the Ram that are fun to watch and learn from.
PD Diesel is a hot shot owner in the Pacific NW and his reviews are pretty fair straight forward.
Now the fun starts :thumbsup::D

YLee,

At the risk of being too picky...............................It's Cummins, not Cumming.

The truck really struggled today . Little drainage job required little machine.

Well don't give it so much throttle -that way it won't smoke the rear tires so much when beginning to pull a trailer in 2 wheel drive:D

still love my 2003 3500 Laramie with Cummins and a 6 speed manual. But it only has 555ft. lb of torque, Those new ones have a whole lot more.

This is the first Mopar product I have ever owned, but have owned a Cummins in a Case bulldozer, which was extremely reliable. I think this truck has 800ft/lb of torque. Plenty enough for what I do.

Towing a load a little more worthy. About 9k lbs. Didn’t break a sweat. The Cummins is impressive.

Yes, you have to readjust both the main mirror section and the wideview sections on both sides. Which is why if someone does need them wide they leave them that way. I'm not a fan of them out, myself, and I also agree that in normal position they are wide enough for anything except a full-width tall enclosed trailer. But for everyone to get snooty about other people doing it is quite petty.

Rob

I am one of those guys that leaves the mirrors flipped up on my 1500, The thing is I tow a 7 x 14 landscape trailer with a 4 foot gate. The issue with the mirrors down is with that short trailer it is hard to see. If you set the mirror to were you can see the side of the trailer to back into driveways etc you can't see 50 feet behind you going down the highway. and if you set them to see back behind you on the road then you can't see any part of the trailer other than about the top 2 feet of the gate, and the wide angle mirrors are "things in mirror are closer than the appear" so you don't have a true sense of how close something is behind you. Sometimes I go weeks and never disconnect the trailer, and like somebody else mentioned they are a pain to have to reset all 4 mirrors when going from down to up. heck even one notch different on the drivers seat tilt angle can throw the whole mirror settings into chaos.

Honestly don’t see what the problem with the mirrors is. Mine are fine on both rams, prefer them up but I tow almost constantly. When I do put them down I honestly haven’t found a need to adjust the small mirror at all so I really can’t understand what the need is for more electronics to automatically adjust them to a secondary setting. Adjusting the upper part only takes a second or two per side.

Both trucks pull like freight trains and if I were to tell here about some of the things that we have yanked around with them most wouldn’t believe it. No problems to speak of yet but I did delete the 2500 at about 100,000 miles and have put on an other 100,000 since.
With a little reprogramming of the tranns line pressures the shift points are much better than stock and there is no sluggish response or starts like some have mentioned.
Stock is also a great performer but it’s the older Cummings and doesn’t have the same emissions as the newer one. It’s also a manual but has performed flawlessly for a little over 300,000 and still runs strong.
Not one to pick but after all the bull crap I hear about people saying the Cummings is great but the dodge around it is ?? I can only say that if ford or Chevy would farm out thier truck building to Dodge I might consider buying an other one. I can count my problem dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth vehicles combined with out using all the fingers on one hand but for the ford or Chevy problem vehicles I would need to use the wife’s hands along with mine and still be short a finger or two!

Good luck with the new truck!
