RAM 5500 Pickup

I have had 3 rams 2 diesels for a 760,000 miles on them with all going over 150,000 with normal problems. I have had more fords than I can count and all did well. I have been looking a new but just don't like the price vs fuel consumption and new truck problems. But like the new Fords and MPG's I have been seeing with them. But if this new 5500 was under 60K I would be willing to put it my shed.

Guess I will have to wait till a few show up used.

And I won't have a GM in my shed but that's my choice I am sure they are good trucks maybe even better than Ford or Dodge and I will never bash anyone for spending there money anyway they want.

These are not beefed up pickups, they are full 5 series trucks with big truck hardware.. The F550 scales at 7200lbs empty.

7,200#???? My 06 F-350 SRW 4x4 Powerstroke weighs 7,600# Heck, my 07 Nissan Titan is almost 6,000#, actually 5,880#.

A F-350 Dually is right at 8,000#.

You must have happy scales.

Crew Cab F550, 4x2, Aluminum deck, no fuel = 7200 lbs.

There's no way your dually F350 weighs 8000 lbs. Even full of fuel.

My neighbors 04 F550 regular cab 4x4 dump with 6ft sides weighs 11,500 with me and my dad in it, plus 1/2-3/4 tank of fuel and some misc tools and such.

My moms 2011 CCSB 4x4 2500 Ram CTD weighs just under 7k.

The 06 F-450 4x4 CC with a 9 ft steel flatbed that I just sold weighed 9200 with me and 3/4 tank of fuel. The 01 F-350 4x4 reg cab I had weighed 6200 by itself. I find it very had to believe an F-550 with any kind of bed weighs 7200.

The Ford website shows that a F-550 Reg Cab 4x2 w/168" wb has a max payload of 12692 lbs with a 19500 GVW, that shows that they figure a minimum weight of 6808 for the truck. The crew cab numbers show a weight of 7220 w/176" wb. Doesn't say whether that is the stripped chassis or if it accounts for a body of some type.

As for ride, you don't normally buy trucks of this size and expect a Cadillac ride. Ride quality and cargo capacity are almost mutually exclusive, even with air suspension the ride can be harsh with an unloaded truck.

OK, is that a 10' bed? Or is that extra section between the cab and bed a fuel tank?

If I remember correctly, the bed already is 9' or 10'. That extra space you see is another fuel tank.

I have been across many scales. My 04 F250 4x4 diesel was 7,500# & my 05 3500 srw 4x4 crew cab Dmax was 7,200#.

Your scales are the ones that are favorable.

I agree. They always give the base engine, lowest trim, ect. Makes the numbers look good.

I weigh all my trucks with me and 3/4 tank. This way I have a good accurate weight. By the way I weigh them multiple times on 3 different scales and all are within 60# so I know they are accurate.

3/4 of a tank is roughly 350lbs. 4x4 drivetrain adds about 800 lbs, steel deck is probably 2~300 lbs more than aluminum. You weigh....

In any event I have the scale ticket at the office. This is for a 2003 7.3 F550 XLT.

Specs directly from ford for 2012.. see page 55.
