It doesn't have the right air suspension. The one on the 1500 is for ride not hauling or towing. This is proven by the payload and towing being less on all the air bag equipped 1500's. They have a great power train a great interior. Now they need to redesign or address the payload and towing of the 1500's. They just got done making major changes to the HD lineup. If ram would improve the payload and towing of the 1500 there is not a half ton that could touch them right now. However saying that I would not go the route of the F150. Over 10,000 lbs towing on a half ton is too much. Just give the ram 1500 a good payload a tow rating of 10,000 lbs and you're set. This is in another thread but when the big 3 adopt the standards for tow ratings I think the f150's rating will drop quite a bit.
So, basically, you are saying that it isn't built for towing or hauling. You know, what a pickup should be built for. Gotcha! I don't think you need 10k lb. tow ratings in a half ton, but you should at least have a "half ton" of payload.
As far as there not being a half ton to touch the Ram, I think that's stretching a bit. Sure, Ram is a nice truck, and it has improved greatly in the last few years, but to say that it is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest is a bit of exaggeration. I think all of the Big 3's half tons are pretty good offerings, and are really close right now, with the Ram maybe being a bit ahead in ride and interior material quality. The thing is, the current F150 is on it's way out, and the '15 will outclass the rest of the competition by a wide margin.
And, I'd bet you lunch that the F150's tow ratings don't drop at all when they adopt the tow standards for '15. If anything, the numbers on the F150 will go up, guaranteed (engine to engine with '14)! The 2.7L will probably tow around 7500 or so, but the numbers of the 5.0 and 3.5 will go up.
