Ram1500 EcoDiesel V6 revealed!

True, people on this forum are more informed when shopping for a truck. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people who don't do their homework when buying a truck to do truck duties like towing and hauling. While camping with friends last fall, payload became a campfire discussion and two of the guys who just towed in large trailers with the beds full of firewood, didn't know that there was a payload sticker on their door. Come to find out, both were exceeding the capacity of the truck and they didn't know it. Still haven't figured out why I have to have an endorsement on my liscense for my motorcycle but not to tow a trailer.

I may have been guilty of this myself but find this forum to be tailored towards people who use a truck as a truck. Those who don't can disregard my posts. One exception: on the particular truck with a 490 lb payload which shouldn't be used to haul multiple people.

Great point. I have a boating friend that came over 3 summers ago to the house. He had just bought a New GMC 1/2 ton 5.3L V8. He had traded in a 2004 Chevy 5.3 truck. He said his new one didn't tow as good as his old one.

It took me all of about 3 seconds to look at the door sticker and figure out his issues. A low GVWR and 3.08 gears. His tow limit was a pathetic 6500#. He had no clue.

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Orders Top More Than 8,000 Units in Three Days, Filling Initial Allocation (Feb 19)
Between the afternoon of February 7th and the morning of February 10th, Ram Truck received more than 8,000 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders, which quickly filled the initial allocation for the exclusive powertrain First round of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders account for more than 50 percent of the total order mix Special order rate nearly twice the corporate average an all-time high Overwhelming response attributed to best-in-class 28 MPG with 9,200 lbs. of towing capacity and strong consumer demand for exclusive light-duty diesel Actual customer orders for the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel take priority over dealer stocking orders On the heels of EPA's certification of 28 MPG, Ram Truck opened the initial order allocation for the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to receive a flood of orders from dealers across the nation. More than 8,000 trucks equipped with the fuel-sipping engine that packs 420 lb.-ft. of torque have been placed曜ust over 50 percent of the total mix. Even more surprising is the amount of orders already paid for by customers twice the corporate average of sold customer orders on a truck that customers have yet to test drive.

Which doesn't say much. What we know:
1. There were 8000 dealer orders for the Diesel 1500 (both to get trucks in to stock them and special orders)
2. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders are more than 50 percent of the total order mix (the "total order mix" then being ~17,000?)
3. Special order rate nearly twice the corporate average – an all-time high
So, if the normal "Special order rate" is 5%, this batch could have 10% and that PR blurb would be true...
I'll take hard numbers rather than PR hype any day...

Yes there is a lot of hype that needs to be drummed up to get the fire going. It was true with the ecoboost as well. I have no doubt this diesel is going to be a home run for Ram because so many people buy trucks and never haul or tow anything.

How many of these brilliant consumers might be hoping for a nice tow vehicle and find out they have sticker shock....and I'm not talking window sticker.

I predict Ford and GM are going to be falling over themselves to copy it.

Ford already is....project code name "Lion".

GM is messing around with that Isuzu 4 cylinder. At least in the new Colorado.

If you think used truck prices are high now - just wait until the new ultra-high mileage U.S. Govt C.A.F.E. kicks in & all the truck makers are forced to sell diesels in the U.S.

Take care of your current truck!!

Even better yet...Ford will have a gasser getting nearly the same fuel economy on much cheaper fuel.

Ford has a diesel going in the Transit if they decide the F150 needs one. I don't think it will once the 2.7L EcoBoost shows up later this year.
