True, people on this forum are more informed when shopping for a truck. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people who don't do their homework when buying a truck to do truck duties like towing and hauling. While camping with friends last fall, payload became a campfire discussion and two of the guys who just towed in large trailers with the beds full of firewood, didn't know that there was a payload sticker on their door. Come to find out, both were exceeding the capacity of the truck and they didn't know it. Still haven't figured out why I have to have an endorsement on my liscense for my motorcycle but not to tow a trailer.
I may have been guilty of this myself but find this forum to be tailored towards people who use a truck as a truck. Those who don't can disregard my posts. One exception: on the particular truck with a 490 lb payload which shouldn't be used to haul multiple people.
Great point. I have a boating friend that came over 3 summers ago to the house. He had just bought a New GMC 1/2 ton 5.3L V8. He had traded in a 2004 Chevy 5.3 truck. He said his new one didn't tow as good as his old one.
It took me all of about 3 seconds to look at the door sticker and figure out his issues. A low GVWR and 3.08 gears. His tow limit was a pathetic 6500#. He had no clue.
