Rat and mouse traps

I have three simple bucket mouse traps. One under the house, one in the garage and one in the shop. Shop seems to limit out and then no captures., garage never has had a victim. Under the house gets a couple a month which are buried at sea.

Country living does have its rodents. Here it's chipmunks & mice - no rats, no squirrels. I've tried most everything. And most everything works - for a while.

However - I recently obtained a barn cat. It's become like a great void in the universe around here. No mice or chipmunks around or in any of my outbuildings.

I do provide shelter, food & water for this cat. The cat works 24/7 at controlling the rodents.

I am VERY happy..........

Still like the simplest mouse trap.
A 5 gal bucket, 2 inches of water and peanut butter smeared just above the water line.
Cost =$0.00 and results =100%
Just place near anything they can climb up on, (curtain, rough wood wall or at worst just lean a stick against the rim).

Discovered this 'trap' when I had a 5 gal ash bucket adjacent to my stone fireplace and had accidently dropped some popcorn into that ash bucket.
Next morning we awoke to 3 of the pests hopping unsuccessfully in attempt to escape.

Refinements led to PB as the lure and water to shorten their misery.
PB beats everything as bait and works for most pests. (also well documented as such)
LOL, and it sticks on mouse/rat traps better than cheese, or whatever.

For what it's worth, Mice do have feelings and emotions. Not that many of you care.

It seems there are no rats... I have just been getting those pesky little mice. Can't wait for the day I catch none.

My Brother lived on my farm prior to my purchase. Rats everywhere. Burrowing under everything. I went to War with them. I have no Rats now. Only a few mice annually. Diligence.

I still prefer my barn cat. No traps to check or maintain. However - I do feed, water & shelter this cat.

I've had them get into buildings so badly that the only option was to rip out the walls and all of the insulation. A quick snap trap and they don't have feelings anymore. Another method I've seen but nobody has mentioned is a simple bait trap for fish; put some nuts or whatever in that, they can get in but not out. It doesn't kill them either, so you can drop them off at IT's place so that you don't hurt their feelings.

Several years ago I was sipping on a Mich Light bottle while splitting wood on the back side of the woodpile. I forgot to bring it inside. A few days later when I went to retrieve it I found that not one, not two, but 3 mice had somehow gotten inside the bottle and couldn't get out. I did not bring that bottle back to the redemption center.
