Ratchet Rake/Brush pics

Finally got to use my new RR this weekend, works GREAT! Used on white brush/mesquite/cat claw/ prickly pear. It pulled most up by the roots, left some but considering that before I started this area was hard to walk through, much less drive equipment through. I am very happy with it and it will be one of the most used pieces of equipment I have bought. First couple of pics is before I started, the rest are after the rake. Worked it like the video on the RR website and no complaints, even killed a rattle snake with it!

That looks really great. I've been considering a rolling chopper to drag around to cut my underbrush down and then using my box blade to pull the debris out.

That there $300 attachment now has me considering buying one.

Dear Case485Guy: I just caught your thread with the pictures of the clearing you did with the RR. Could you give me details about the ratchet rake you just obtained such as its make, model and how it attaches to a tractor. Also could you attach a few pictures of the attachment.
My daughter has 10 acres just north of Bandera and Ii shipped my Cat D6 dozer down a few years back to clear the underbrush and cedar trees. I read recently on another post that a fella down in Texas was clearing underbrush and killed a couple of rattlers with his shot gun. Do the rattlers climb onto the trees and high brush then onto the equipment? I would think and hope that the noise and rattle of heavy machines would get them to scatter. Many years back I had a chance to see what a rattler bite can do to a arm or leg at the old Santa Rosa in San Antonio? The only snake I like is the King...he knows what to do to rattlers.
Just curious, since you mentioned killing a rattler with your RR. I hope you people got some of the heavy rain the past few days.

Never have seen a rattler up in a tree, not saying they dont, just never have seen one in a tree. This rattler came out from under a root ball as I was clearing brush.

The ratchet rake can only be purchased at Tractor Supply Company now. Attached are a few pictures of mine that I purchased before TSC started selling them for Ratchet Rake.

I'm not sure that is true. I purchase my Racket Rake directly from their web site. The two TCS store in my area didn't carry it.

Can you flip it over?

I dont see that it can be flipped over not the way the mounts are welded up.
Should be able to have your local TSC order it in, just give them the SKU #

It looks like the function of the top edge (forward pointing) is to cut the debris off, and the lower edge (down pointing) is to rake.

I really like the looks of it, but I'm afraid my area where I would use it the stumps will tear it to pieces...

Backdragging my bucket with toothbar or my root grapple is S L O W, but I'm not sure I have an option of using one of these...

I can clearly see how it is a great device though... And I want one...

With my Kuboata b7200 I'll loose traction before I'll break or bend a tooth on the rake, even in 4wd, if the stump is too big. Ask me how I know. Lol

One of my main concerns would be the durability of the straps. Seems as though if you were clearing heavy brush the straps would tale a beating.

The one that comes with the unit does have a eye hook sewn on one end and a wire hook on the other end. Eye hook goes into the rakes tie down point, wire hook into the cable eye. It can easily be replaced with a 2" x 27' ratchet tie-down strap with wire hooks each end, sold for 10.00 to 15.00 depending where you are, just cut it down to length desired and add a shackle for the wire hook to hook into on the rake itself.
After all the brush, Mesquite limbs I removed/broke off....I think they will last quite awhile.Defintely will need to spray the ratchet with lube pretty often.
As far as bending breaking on stumps, I dont think that would happen. Well not on the 72" x 5/8" thick. I was pushing over Mesquite trees as big a tree as my tractor can break/push. Hit some stumps that stopped the tractor cold with no bending.

I did not have any problems with bending and hit stuff that stopped the tractor.

I recently purchased a RR at my local TSC. The first time I attached it something did not look right. Sure enough I had it reversed. I looked at the pictures closer then attached it correctly. So it will reverse, but think the large teeth down is better. The angle of attack lets me run the teeth under what I want to root out then roll the bucket up. A back and forth action on rolling the bucket while slowy moving ahead with the tractor worked on rooting out some salt grass clumps.

It is actually more effective on roots back dragging it - or maybe I have not learned the finer points of operation. I used it to loosen up some compacted clay and then drug my box blade across the area to cut down a high spot.

It is easy to attach and detach. Drive onto the unit then roll the bucket up to strap it on. Just wondering how long the webbing will hold. It is on the heavy side. If your TSC does not have it in stock try to find out when the next "truck" is coming in. You may save a few dollars on freight if it is delivered through normal channels rather than special ordering.

I got the RR after reading the reviews here 2 years ago as I had a lot of brush clean up work after stumping here in rocky NH.

Due to the embedded rocks (6" to 1' to ledge size) and various small stumps the RR did not really work out as planned. If would clog up fast with the 2' dia roots, and pine stubs, then the rocks would cause the loader to jump loosing the load in the RR. Then to spread loam out it needed to be dry - if clumpy or damp the RR would just make divots dragging the clumps of loam.

For grading / raking and root removal in non rocky or with brush less than 3" trunk this is probably a good tool.

Glad it works for others.. a york rake worked better for me at the end of the day.

I have been studying these things for about 6 months. I too was intially concerned about stumps in the area I am going to clear with it.

But my local TSC got some in a couple of months ago so I actually got an up close look at them in the store. I have a 45 hp mahindra with ML260 loader and there is NO doubt in my mind that I will tear my loader up before I break this rake.
Santa is bringing me rachet rake !

Did it take you very long to get comfortable using it?
What techinique did you find worked the best ? Slow forward or back drag
Also what size did you get ?

I am getting one in the next couple of weeks so any information would be helpful.
