Rayco 87L vs ASV 100 Forestry

Does anyone know anything about the Rayco 140? I spent yesterday driving a Lamtrak 6000 series unit, and was not impressed with it's production over my ASVs. If it costs 2.5 times more, I would think it should cut 2.5 times more.....

I am new to the forum, but not to mulching. I am looking to 2 of my ASV's and step into a little larger machine and possibly by 1 large machine (Talked to FAE yesterday about the PT350 @ $450,000 OUCH>>>>)

I have a C140 here, now that we had demo'd on several acres. Very impressive machine. It is a good production machine but Rayco vs. ASV is an apples oranges comparison. Both excellent equipment, both do different jobs and each does excellent what it was designed to do.

The head is pretty awesome. The drum is FAE but Rayco manufactures the rest. It cuts great. The JD engine is smooth and starts right up even in the cold. I started it after it set for a couple of days and it was about 10 degrees and it fired right up. The end result, mulch, is very good.

The end job was good but steel tracks do tend to tear up the ground.

By the way, the Rayco vs. ASV is apples and oranges in my opinion. Both great but different applications.

Here is a before and after pictures.

I will take delivery next week of my Fecon FTX90L 336 hrs, 2005, engine is fairly new with 18 months warranty left. I did do a lot of research on this equipment and I knew I didnt want a skidsteer, guys in my area are having too much problems with them.

WFB,

I'm anxious to find out (next week) how you like your FTX90L? I've been researching that particular machine and it sounds great...a little less HP than the ASV but the option for rear hydraulics/accessories. Will your machine have steel tracks or the optional rubber tracks? Did you consider the FTX100L? I would like to demo the 90L alongside an ASV. Don't forget to post some pics.

While I like the FTX 140, it is too much of a single/dual purpose machine with out any loader arms...only a mulcher and stump grinder. While I do alot of mulching, I still like to have the option of using my shear or grapple on small lot clearing jobs...

I would love to see an FTX 140 with arms, but after talking to Greg Henry at Fecon, I think its a long shot...someone else on this forum might know more...

I'll take a look at the FTX 100 vs RC-100 when I get back east in the summer...to me the main drawback of the RC is the lack of a pressurized cab...

my two cents worth...

TMTS,

Good news! According to a salesman at Fecon, they are going to introduce a new machine several months into 2008 named FTX-148. The new machine will have loader arms, three different track options, power management system, and other goodies. It will have the versatility of a loader (bucket, auger, other attachments). The price is projected to be 10-15% more than the current FTX-140.

What? Overpriced? Poor ergonomics? Uncomfortable as heck to drive? Prone to problems and failures? Or just that it is a chick magnet?

385hp should do the trick.
