I was told the service manual for the ym276 is the closet I would find to the ym2210, I now have the ym276 service manual but if anyone knows the exact specs for the 2210 please post them, I am not sure if it has two different sized head bolts, 130ft/lbs I was told is what they need, the ym276 reads the valve clearance in .008, is that the same as the ym2210?

winston1, not so much impatient as wanting to make sure I have whats needed before I start, I got plans for the tractor this weekend and didn't want to need a new gasket and be down until one gets ordered.

Looking at the rocker arm removal and installation in this book it looks pretty simple, I think I could tackle this myself.

Straight out of the ym276 service manual
Cylinder Head Bolts and Nuts Torque
Initial 29 ft-lb
Second 58 ft-lb
Final 94 ft-lb

so where are you guys getting the 130 ft-lb from?

My bad had to check It's 133 Ft.Lbs not 135. I doubt your torgue wrench is that accurate to worry about it. A couple pounds to tight is much better than not tight enough. IMHO. You have the same motor basicly as the 2tr20. the 2210 isn't that much different even on the cylinders. The Red 2000,240,2210 all use the same piston 90mm. the only difference was the first GRN 2000,1900 was 88mm. How they increased the Hp. I do not know exactly on your model but would have to be in the head valves and inj.

The difference of 133 # and 94 # is significant enough to wait until you get additional confirmation.

As for the 2210 engine (only) - I think it is near identical to the 2-cyinder 2TR20A used in YM2000 and YM240. So the YM240 service manual from Yanmar-USA is the best available documentation.

I'm just guessing but it seems like the 130 ftlb spec is for the six large head bolts on these big twins, while that lower number you found is for a 3 cylinder engine with more, smaller bolts. Looking through Hoye's online catalog might confirm this difference in bolt size.

Somebody out there must have researched this for YM2210. Anybody?.....

Zork, I don't think there was ever a Deere version of this 2-cylinder Powershift Yanmar, and Deere's 2210 is unrelated to it.

Carey nailed it. From my YM240 Service Manual:

Head nuts Qty 6, 130 + - 3.6 ft lbs
Rocker arm support, two, 58 ~ 72

And the 130 posted by Zork references a post elsewhere by 'Danny', I assume our 1Danny, who is a specialist in YM2210. If Danny said it, I believe it.

Did anyone go look at the pdf files that Zork referenced? Are they worth downloading?

i dont think i would be comfortable enough to crack the head bolts undone to retorque them on a head gasket that is possibly 30 yr old or more. just tighten them up.... yes but not undo and do back up especially if it were for the minor leak it has. if it were major and it looked to require a gasket change anyway then yeah do it, nothing to lose. the bolts probably will not want to retorque @130 anyway without cracking them somehow.:confused2:

It seems it's 50/50 whether to loosen then retorque vs. just tightening the bolts, I used tractor 4 hours today and it ran fine, no overheating etc. The oil does not show any sign of water contamination, I may just keep an eye on it and just change the gasket in a few months. Since cleaning the grease/grim off the block I didn't notice any signs of leakage allday.
