What was the added cost of the 4 in 1 bucket and did you buy the JD offering? Can someone justify the 4K additional cost of the JD over the Branson 3510 which has the same equip but not as "nice" as the JD in regards to the ergonomics and fit and finish?

On the 990 I ordered it added $1250 to replace the bucket with a 4-in-1 and add the 3rd SCV necessary to control it.

No question about it, Branson makes a nice machine.

Justifications for the higher JD price could include long-term availability of parts (JD is unequaled in this regard), higher resale value, better dealer network, better support both online and through dealers, and the confidence that they will be around for a long time. Is that worth $4k extra to you? Only you can decide.

Chriss, I don't know where you got the $4K price tag from I paid $1,200 extra for the 4in1 plumbed and ready to go when I took delivery of my 4310 last year. The best (least expensive) is to get it at time of delivery. If you decide to go for it later its bound to be a lot more expensive... but I wouldn't think anywhere near $4K! My guess would be somewhere around $2,500 installed (I'm sure another TBN'er has done it and could tell you exactly what it would cost to have installed at a later date).

I believe the $4K difference was in the tractor and not the 4 in 1.

My fault, I was at work when I wrote that and mixed the 4 in 1 and the Branson/JD question together. I see the 4 in 1 is around $1200 additional which I didn't know. My second question was the difference in price and the justification. I have 11 acres and as much as I love the JD I'm having a tough time coming to terms with the price difference over the Branson. Hands down the JD is the best compact out there with the NH second and maybe the Kubota 3rd and the Branson is easily 4th. The Kubota, NH & JD are priced about the same with less than 1k difference but the 4th place finish is just over 4k less than an equally powered/equiped JD! I can't say this enough, I Love the JD tractor! It's awesome in everyway but the extra 4k will buy a Branson backhoe! Thanks everyone for helping with their thoughts on this. I buy and sell cars like it's nobody's business but tractors I'm at a loss mostly because I want to keep what I buy for many years and I don't do that with cars/trucks.

I think this says it all. I am a Century "believer" but if you trully feel this way you should buy the JD. $4k is alot of money, but you'll be second guessing the decision forever if you don't buy it......

What is it you love about it?

chriss, I think as a first tractor a Deere is an excellent choice. By choosing a big 4 Massey,Kubota, NH, Deere you have a guarantee that if you don't like something about it you will get nearly what you paid for it when you sell/trade it. If you think you will keep it for many years the Century may be the way to go. But if you are anything like me when a new model comes out your tempted to trade up that 4k savings will be gone.

I have been told by more than one dealer that the major finance companies don't want to touch used off brand tractors which leaves you trying to sell your tractor to someone for cash.

Good point. I took a friend with me today to look at the Branson, Kubota and JD. He just bought a 4100 with a loader used for 9k w/150hrs. The John Deere is a much nicer tractor so I did the loan application today and I guess if everything is ok they will deliver next week some time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
