as for the 1 series being a toy

the backhoe will cut electrical, water or gas supply to your house with just one tug of the bucket, dipper or boom joystick and it will do this at idle - remember to call before you dig

the 48" bucket at full load too high driving a on a hill at the wrong angle - can kill you

the PTO spins at 540 rpm and will remove your arm in just under a second

it may be small but toy it is not - respect it in it will be invalueble as a tool

learn how to use it well and friends and family with big iron will ask you for help

the local ski hill up here in NY asks for my 1026t tlb by name because 5 other deeres up to a 7410 and a JD 290 excavator are too big

as for timeline - i ordered in april of this year and had my unit in a month

as for the how/hum attitude of the dealer - most john dear customers have way more on there minds that have to do with running a farming operation or construction business and dont like to bothered and deere just gets it - when your ready you are ready because nothing runs like a deere

watch your financing rate ask final cost, monthly and interest costs and compare - at my dealer 0% was actualy higher than 2.99% as at the time there was a dealer contribution and my trade value reflected the dealer portion

deere financial also likes to insure their risk - so dont be shocked if this comes up - $2-300 dollars for the life of the loan, if i remember correctly

hope all goes well

tkoza, thanks for the reassurance and the warnings. I'll be sure to give the financing a good review before I sign anything for good. They said Friday the only thing that they didn't have in stock was the 260bh and it would 1-2weeks on it.

Yes, the Deere insurance is pretty cheap which covers theft I believe. It will pay off your loan if I remember correctly. My deere had to stay outside on property we initially didn't live on, so I was worried about theft the most.

Were you able to come to a decision on the deal? Pictures? Please be careful as tkoza gave some good advise. go slow at first on level ground until you get the "feel" for things.

Keep us posted on your endeavours. Your place looks beautiful.

I will definitely take the insurance because theft is a big concern to me where I live. I still haven't heard from them since last saturday, I'm thinking about giving them a call and asking about the status of my purchase since all they have had me do until this point is fill out the credit app. I knew it would take a couple weeks to get the tractor together but I kind of figured they would let me know when me credit was approved or they were starting to order or putting together everything.

Well, calling them isn't a bad idea. I wouldn't assume anything regarding credit app, ordering the tractor, etc. If u assume anything, and it turns out they just put your paperwork on the counter and forgot about u, then you'll be really pissed.

You want that tractor, and they r who they r. Just call, be polite, and hopefully everything goes relatively well, with few speed bumps.

Hope all is cool.

Just called them, they said they have everything in but the backhoe and are expecting it at the beginning of next week. I can't wait!

Sounds like you have a pretty good dealer; enjoy your new tractor.

Whenever I buy a tractor, I get the owner's manual in advance to cut down on the learning curve upon delivery and in case I need clarification on something when it's delivered; just a thought.

For 15 acres you are going to hate the smaller tractor. While the bigger tractor will seem to big, the smaller tractor will actually be more dangerous. I had a a Kubota bx24, basically the same sort of machine as the Deere. That thing scared the heck out of me. The 2520 is much more stable. I live in wv and have some steep hills too, while my bx did the job the 2520 does it better and feels so much safer. I thought like you before that smaller seemed safer. Well "seemed" is the key word. On the hills in wv, wider and longer is definitely a plus.

The backhoe is a huge expense and you really should consider renting a mini excavator when needed. Mich cheaper and quicker in the end.

I really feel that the 1026 will be a mistake based on my experience.
