Well i'm guessing that it sucked a bit of 15-40w through the PCV valve line...
No, very likely you sucked the fresh oil in through the intake valves. Apparently you forgot that valves open and close when you crank the starter.

And I'd be interested in the two hydraulic filter numbers - the one you took off and the replacement. It's possible one (or both) are the wrong filter for the job.

Greg,

I realise that valves open and close during cranking. But how would that cause/create a path from the valve cover to the cylinder? Filters used are cross referenced off of CTOA website. Do you know something I don't about these filters?

Oil would first go through PCV line (PCV sucking on valve cover) to intake side of valve then through the always opening closing valves.....

As far as oil into the cylinder, PCV or valve guide is the only path I can think of. Valve guide it wouldn't matter open or closed? So please explain what you mean.

Thanks

Filter Jinma 254.
Use at your own risk.

These are some cross referenced filters:

OIL:
Luberfiner PH2856A/PH2801
FRAM PH-3950-this is a stubby filter
NAPA 1626/1381

FUEL:
Luberfiner LFF3806
FRAM P-6503
NAPA 3195/1516

HYD:
Luberfiner LFP1652
WIX 51551
NAPA 1551

I'd have suspected a valve guide seal, because I thought that ventilation hose went into the side of the block (valve cover to crankcase). Is it routed into the intake manifold now? But if it turns out to be a one time thing, I guess it's academic now.

About the hydraulics, mine never had the external filtration setup. But I've read other guys who consider 10 micron (suction side) filters to be hard on the pump.

YukonKing, that Napa 1516 you listed as a fuel filter, I have only ever seen used as a lube oil filter(that is what I use for lube oil on my 2005 284).

Where is your "hydraulic filter" located on your tractor? Got any pictures? If it is down in front of your right foot, like this one on Mrs 3RRL's new tractor,

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i106/rliefveld/Jinma Package/02-01-2008 FIRST RUNNING/IMG_0003.jpg

Then none of those hydraulic filters listed is appropriate. The cartridge shown in the linked pic is on the pump suction line and requires a suction STRAINER cartridge, not a filter cartridge. A strainer is typically 150 micron. All those you listed above are indeed hydraulic filters, with cellulose/paper media and about a 10 micron rating. I think They are too restrictive for a suction line and will starve the pump for oil. They are intended to be on the return line to filter the fluid as it returns to the resovoir.

Hey RonMar,

Let me look into those numbers and I'll edit as necessary. Yes my filter is the same as the yellow one shown. I'll look into it further. The funny thing is that the chinese filter I took off was deffinetly a restriction, the new one made a huge difference. Now yah got me wondering....?

Thanks

The way I understand this site, the edit button is only available for ~24 hours after posting. But if you can justify the edit/delete to a moderator, I don't believe they're bound by the 24 hour rule.

If the hydraulic filter should be a strainer, does anyone have a number of a North American one that works and is the right micron rating? Looked in previous posts on this and other forums and do not see an answer other than the OEM number
regards

I'm not sure if this will help or not, or if it will fit the stock Jinma cartridge mount, but it is a 149 micron suction strainer filter. Installed on the suction line to the pump.
149 Micron Suction Strainer
You can go to the Northern Tool site to check the specs out. I installed this unit on my Kama 554 and got some replacement filters at Napa for it. It's the one on the left of 1st photo. Also shown is the install on my Kama 554.

My wife just got a Jinma 284 and although I have not checked her suction strainer to see if these filters will screw on, but they appear to be similar. Perhaps it will fit?

Here is the link to the 10 micron filter that should be installed on the return side just before the tank so as not to restrict or starve the pump.
