I'll leave it together till I find parts so I can at least move it around if i need to

I bought a set for an FX24D from Sheaffer's town & Country. I know Hoye carries ring and pinions for some models. 403 Forbidden Yanmar Tractor Parts

Just something to ponder. If you order parts before you tear down you have the possibility of finding deeper needs once you get in there. You could still move it around with the hydraulic casing off. Probably will have to remove at least one axle to change ring and pinion though.

Does anyone have a part number for the ring bearing for the fx265d?
Parts manual is on order but would like to be able to look for it.
Thanks

Well I finally opened it up and it looks like the ring gear is the only problem I can see. 20200711_124032.jpg

I attached a thread in post #22 where I changed one out on an FX24D back in 2013. Yours looks almost a spitting image. I believe you will have to remove the axle housings. They will come off as one piece. The axle shaft goes into the carrier. Here is one picture showing the likeness.

Fireman984, I seem to recall a crown wheel and pinon are machined as a matched set, and sold that way.
Good Luck

Thanks Winston! Yes that looks like the same set up. I'll pull the ring out this week and take a look at it. Where did you find your gear at? Finding parts seems to be the problem. Also how did you make the gaskets for putting it back together?

Thanks

I got the gear set from Sheaffer's Town & Country Tractor.

ring and pinion are sold as set. Probably not suppose to do it but I only changed the ring gear. I did blue and check the tooth contact and so far as I know GWsmith is still using his tractor.

What's the trick to getting the ring and pinion out? I've removed both axles but I am not sure what I need to remove to get it out.

Your will have to remove the differential lock shifting mechanism. I am old and can't remember much. The bolts that hold the ring gear were sheared on the FX24D that I worked on but they will have to be removed on yours. Not sure it makes any difference before or after the unit removal. I did not remove the pinion so I cannot advise you on that. You can go back to the thread I attached in post 22 to see pictures in different stages.

I have been looking at your post often!!! It's very helpful. This is the first time digging into something like this so I'm just hoping I can put it back together!

Can you tell me the best way to get the pins out?20200713_105116.jpg

Thanks. I just went for it. Taped them out and got everything out. Now to find parts. It's 43 teeth but it not only had a few broken teeth, it cracked apart too.20200713_121421.jpg20200713_121429.jpg

The FX24D had 43 teeth, wonder if it isn't the same gear. part #194555-31300 for ring & pinion, they are available, do you have the part # for yours?

Funny the last set of numbers are the same.

Post # 54 shows some of the broken teeth are dark, and some shiny. I wonder if this ran a long time with a couple of teeth missing then finally a fragment jammed.

I got the gear set from Sheaffer's Town & Country Tractor.

ring and pinion are sold as set. Probably not suppose to do it but I only changed the ring gear. I did blue and check the tooth contact and so far as I know GWsmith is still using his tractor.

I've done that too, and with pinions that showed scarring. It always seemed to work out OK....at least I never heard of a problem. You want to try to figure out the "why" of the failure if you can. In tractors it is often the diff lock. When I couldn't find a cause of ring and pinion failure I'd be inclined to blame it on the diff. lock. They are hazardous things.

I just noticed the other day that I've still got the same old tube of Prussian blue that I must have bought back in the 1960s. In that time I've been though several cans of blue dykem - so its easy to know which I prefer.

The thing I worried about a lot was if a bearing had gotten worn and caused the ring to shift relative to the pinion. So take a close look at the bearings. However, keep in mind that those bearings are huge and turn slowly....so they do tend to hold up. Rear axle bearing failures on tractors are rare. Seal failures are more common. A bearing going bad will almost always cause the seal to start to leak, but the reverse isn't true. Seals sometimes just start leaking for no reason I can tell, and the bearing is fine.
