One point to make.. CNH is not the maker of the oil. Perhaps we need to hear a shop opinion on this.

Rick.. any comments on a failure and warranty issue on a machine otherwise out of warranty, but using oem oils?

I know they don't make it but it is still "OEM" oil. Regardless, if a problem ever did happen I think it would be easier to get satisfaction when you only have one company to deal with instead of two. The oil company would say their oil is fine and its the tractors fault while the tractor company would say the tractor was fine and its the oils fault:(

Just pulling your leg.

The fellow I hire for excavation work told me he had a Cat dozer at one time that would'nt hold the blade grade-level where he set it. They never did fix it eventhough he had them look at it many times and got factory reps involved.

He has a Volvo excavator and Deere dozer now, so I guess that cost Cat some money. But, even with equipment costing 5-6 times more than a CUT, and there was clearly a problem there, and not Chinese equipment - he still didn't get service from the manufacturer.

I figure if Cat will blow off a guy that's going to be buying new heavy equipment for another 30 yrs, CNH, Kubota or Deere isn't going to worry too much about any problem I may have.

My .02

Dave.

If a machine is out of warranty, it's out. Doesn't much matter if you are using liquid gold as a lubricant.

Rick, have you ever heard of anyone having problems using NH oil in their tractors or any other brands oil for that matter?

Yep.. that's pretty much what I figured, and have seen in practice. ( and I'm ok with it too... )

Mind you this is only a single situation.. and doesn't really prove anything, when i had my tractor in for that service where i got a salvaged remote to replace the out of warranty factory defective one.. when they tested my system and all, the mechanic said everything else looked fine and tested ok for flow and pressure. and they -know- I use walmart oil.

again.. not that that proves anything either way...

by the way.. robert, didn't want the discussion to get personal or anything.. just stating what I had seen, and thought most dealers probably do re: the warranty issue ..e tc.. I likes a good discussion :)

Its ok Chris, I wasn't taking this personal. It really doesn't matter to me as like you I am just enjoying the discussion.

And to clear things up, I am not implying that using non-OEM oil will void warranty work as I am just talking about general issues related to the oil used and not the tractor. Basically, if the oil was the cause of a problem and you had to deal with the company that has their name on the oil. I still and unless something happens will always feel like I have a better chance of getting satisfaction if there was a problem if I am using the OEM's oil in their tractor. I just know with my history (if it can go wrong, it will go wrong) if I used a non-OEM oil I will get stuck in the middle of two companies blaming each other for the problem:(

So for what little difference there is in actual cost I just use OEM oil in my tractors and trucks and never think about it. Luckily Motorcraft oil is fairly cheap compared to the non-OEMs as we have 4 Ford trucks that get oil changes 2-3 times a year.

since my machines don't actually generate any money for me.. they are 100% expense. when i am changing oil by the 5g pail.. and need an entire pickup truck bed full of said pails.. then the price difference of up to 30$ a pail starts to become quite financially tangible.. :)
