Recall Notice for BX series

So far this BX series is a DOG and Kubota is very slow in fixing the problems.

I am not playing hard ball with Kubota but will certainly do so if they do not get their act together soon!

The BX has been around for about seven years and has an outstanding reputation. I have had a BX2200 for six years. I run it hard and have not had problems with it. When you make statements to the effect that the entire series is a "DOG" you are overgeneralizing and assuming that every one else's experience is the same as yours. I assure you that those of us who have been around for a long time with the older BX models disagree with you.

As to "Hard Ball", some people talk big machismo talk, but you are not going to make any progress if that is how you approach Kubota.

When I talked to the dealer he gave me some insight into the reason Kubota is doing the seat recall...

Apparently some rather hefty fellow - who should be using a push mower to drop some of the weight - was on a BX something... going along sideways on a hill that likely was too steep... and his inertia - coupled by his mass and the force of gravity... pulled the seat free from the clipping bar... sending his rotund rump off the tractor and down the hill, like a Jello marble - bouncing and jiggling all the way...

He made noise - Kubota decided to fix it... hopefully they throw in a health club membership for the portly fellow too!

My dealer put the bracket on...and it's an easy thing to do, one nut comes off the bottom of the seat mount, a metal bar goes on and the nut goes back on. The net result is the seat doesn't come off even if you take off the R-clip that keeps the seat mounted. This is a 3 minute job at most, certainly nothing to get worked up about. My dealer also hinted that a fix may be coming out soon to soften up that rearward stop...

I have Also received my recall notice. I thought the recall had something to do with the seat not latching properly? I have also had problems with the BX shutting off when I get up, or go to turn the seat around to use the hoe. Then the unit want start. Nothing when i turn the key, but after trying for sometimes 10 minutes it will start right up. This seems to have nothing to do with the two seat switches, as I have checkd them with a meter. My dealer said this problem would be addressed with the recall?

dj

Correct - this recall is about a latch to keep the seat from popping off when "under load" - see my previous post.
The switches under the seat are completely different - you can not stand up (remove weight from the seat) when the hydro petal is engaged - the switch will kill the engine - if you turn the seat - you are "off" the switch - and the tractor will certainly not start (of course you could depress the switches manually and start it - but the manual advises against that) :)
I have heard that some of the "creep" adjustment in the hydro petal on some units is "excessive" - meaning - when on a flat surface at more than an idle and your foot off the petal - how quickly does your BX creep forward... if it's enough (tech's please step in here) - the electronics may in-fact think it's your foot on the petal, not the creep adjustment, and it will stall the tractor when you get off the switch. That said - try tapping the reverse petal gently to stop the creep then stand up - that will diagnose this for you.

After reading these posts about the later model BX's all I can say is thank god that I have an older BX 2200........I can stand up if necessary while doing loader work(sometimes necessary in some instances so that you can see what the heck you're doing without worrying about the darn tractor cutting off). We can thank those "litegious" people who love to bring lawsuits against corporations due to their own stupiidity for all of these so called "safeguards" that KUBOTA and other tractor companies have had to install as a result.

WEll, I'm certainly not advocating bypassing safety switches, but it is possible...for example, to diagnose any problems...you could disconnect the wiring harness from the rear safety switch and put in a jumper. This would in fact simulate someone sitting on the seat even if nobody was actually sitting on the seat. Like I said, do NOT do this. :D I would NEVER advocate any bypassing of switches while operating your tractor. :D *&%# lawsuits.....

This is not my first Kubota and while the engine and drive train are very robust there are multiple problems with the BX 1850 that need to be resolved.

Ignoring problems creates an atmosphere that very well could lead to playing “hard ball” with Kubota. This is especially true if safety is the issue.

I stand by all my statements about the BX 1850. They are based on observations and undisputed facts acknowledged by the dealer, but not yet acted upon by Kubota.

You have a BX2200 and it is great-good for you. Have a good day.

I talked to my dealer today and they are going to fix them in the field rather than pick up a bunch of tractors.

Got my "big todo" bracket installed yesterday... For that dinky metal elbow and bolt - I wonder what Kubota is spending in manufacturing, distribution, installation costs and time... Amazing. All because some guy who weighed as much as the tractor busted the seat and fell off - which I think they should include a video of that as part of the repair (but that's just my opinion).
