Torque is not power . Horse power is what moves x pounds up to y height in z seconds . Force over distance during a known duration of time.
What year and model of gasser are you comparing to what year and model of diesel ? How much more does diesel cost than gasoline per gallon . What does a set of diesel injectors cost vs gas injectors ? How much more does the diesel cost up front ? Gassers don稚 suffer waxes up fuel filters in the winter either .

Comfortable power is not free...

Diesels are expensive and troublesome,

Troublesome? It depends on the brand and year. My three Cummins trucks, ranging from '93 to '14 have been the most reliable engines I've ever owned. In 500,000 miles on three of them I've only replaced two water pumps, and one of those was a factory recall. And I don't just idle them around. All three have been hard workers.

I havent been towing anything with plow on, i only put that on when a storm comes, aside from not having "enough" power, terrible gas mileage, the trucks body is in excellent condition, but i'm assuming from the previous owner salting with it alot, the underside/frame,components, are excessively rusty, i needed to replace the exhaust manifold gasket yesterday, and it was so rusty i'm not even going to attempt it, and took it the professionals, i can forsee problems occurring because of the rust on the frame and also the engine and components,, so it worries, but thats NY for ya,, its strange because body is in excellent shape

The rust might be the best reason of all to sell and move on to something else.
Look for an '08 Ram out west. No rust issues. For example, I recently bought a 1983 Mercedes 300SD diesel here in Nevada and it has zero rust.

I love my 01 7.3 cc dually . But in comparison to my 99 v10 the 7.3 cost way more to maintain ..7.3 needs new batteries every 4 years or so.v10 4 batteries since I owned it . oil changes ,antifreeze well you know. I've had 7 alternators in the 7.3 Nappa say's the 7.3 shakes them to death thank god for life time warrenty. Price of diesel . 7.3 gets around 13 mpg v 10 gets 11 mpg .7.3 has 280,000 miles . V10 has 390,000 miles. The v10 is a lot more car like in the way you drive it throttle response and getting up to speed. 7.3 you have to chase it romp on the peddle to get performance out of it .My wife was driving it and she said this truck is a dog . I got behind the wheel smoked the tires rolled coal and said you just don't know how to drive a diesel .All after market upgrades brings 7.3 to 450 hp 1,000 ft lps torque. V10 is about 275 hp 410 ft lbs. :drink:

You are rolling too much coal to be getting such horrid mileage with a 7.3. I had one for several years and as with all my vehicles the fuel used goes into an Excel spreadsheet so I know exactly what my mileage is. My 7.3 averaged 17-18 mpg when not hauling a big load. And 14-15 mpg hauling a cab-over camper. We're talking a long bed crew cab. I have a V-10 now (in a 4x4 van) and it has never gotten better than 12 mpg.

I had a 2000 F350 auto trans 4x4 dually, best mpg I could get was 14mpg, going easy and steady at 70 mph on the highway. Step it up to 75 mph, dropped to 12mpg. This is with mild tunes for economy driving, straight piped exhaust and better flowing air filter. But... for a 10k lb truck, with 4.10 gears, that could haul more than it weighed, not bad. My F250 with the same tunes and mods, but 3.73 gears, 6spd manual trans, and 35" tires pulled 16-17mpg doing mixed driving to work every day.
Compare thoes trucks to my current truck, F250 with 5.4 gas motor, auto, 4.10 gears and 4x4, getting single diget mpg... not real happy.

Hardly ever roll coal:D But I certainly don't baby it. Tt also has 4.10 or 4.30 gears I forgot which truck has which. 35" duratracs don't help either. My excursion has the 3.73 and on a trip to wildwood we got 24 mpg. My previous trucks where all 460's they got 8-9 mpg . Opec used to send me xmas cards every year.:drink:
