Hate the fire ants. My wife has the unique ability to always stand in the middle of the nest--of course she always insists on wearing slip on shoes with no socks.
It is too late now, but if you put Ammonia (common, ordinary household stuff) on the bites, it neutralizes the ant venom--reduced stinging, reduce pimples, reduced itching.
My folks would put a wet chunk of a cigarette on the bite it worked on all insect bites actually nicotine apparently is an antiseptic.
I tried the ammonia when I got attacked by yellow jackets. It worked like a miracle!
Just as you said, it reduced the pain, and the swelling too.![]()
Fire ant bites affect me more than wasps.
Let me see if I have this right. We folks who live in the north put up with snow and the cold, not this year - its supposed to get up 45 degrees this afternoon, are ridiculed for our lack of sanity. And yes, there are time when the temp drop to minus 20 and the wind is blowing out of the northwest at 30 mph that I question my sanity for living here. But we don't deal with this vermin you folks from south have to deal with. We have some mosquitoes, lots to be exact, but come late fall they're done.
I can't imagine going out for stroll in my back yard and coming across a mound of fireants where their occupants have every intent on killing me. My sister-in-law who lives outside of Temple Texas told me of a sting she received from a scorpion when she didn't look inside her shoe one day.
So I guess living up here doesn't seem so crazy after all. Southern folks, you keep those fireants, scorpions and killer bees all to yourself you hear.
