No tape? Well, I've used a piece of paper and a rubber band before.

Many years ago my ring hit the capacitor terminals on an air conditioner I was working on. (unplugged but hot cap) That was the worse I was ever shocked in my life.

I never wore my ring again and unbelievably, my wife understood.

I resemble that title. I've used duct tape, electrical tape, and super glue in a pinch.

I once significantly cut the tip of my index finger while cutting up some fruit. I laid down in the floor, my heart beat raced, I got cold sweats, turned white as a sheet and almost passed out. Yes, I'm a wimp. Subsequently, my wife and I headed out to the emergency room. Of course it was a weekend night which meant we would probably have to wait at least 3 hours at the ER because the more serious problems would be treated before my little finger cut. The closer we got to town, the more I dreaded the ER visit. After 3 hours, the wound would be closed so they would have to re-open it to clean it, then stitch it up. I didn't like the thoughts of reopening the wound, somewhat due to the pain, and somewhat because of the damage that would be done to the finger.

In consequence, instead of going to the ER, we went to the drug store and bought some super glue. We super glued the skin at the laceration.

The finger healed incredibly well. My wife, who is a physical therapist, thought I would lose all feeling in the tip of my finger from the injury. To the contrary, almost all of the feeling came back which is great because not being able to feel the tip of one's index finger would cause some physical limitations. That episode was a learning experience. For simple clean cuts that require only a few stitches, I would now chose super glue over stitches in a heartbeat.

I hope you don't wear that ring while you are working. It is good way to lose a finger, which not only isn't a lot of fun, but it will set back your project by at least a month...

Was thinking the same thing. Made the mistake of wearing one while water skiing once. Never do that again.

I lost my first wedding ring in a welding accident. I was in a hurry changing a starter on a customer's pickup, didn't disconnect the battery, welded the wedding ring to the truck frame - to the wrench - to the starter connected to the battery. When fried to a medium rare the flesh comes off a finger quite easily allowing the balance of the finger to slide out of the flesh under the ring quite easily with the appropriate motivation.

I keep a couple rolls of duct tape around but haven't used it as a band aid yet, hope I never have to. :thumbsup: I used to wear a ring but gave that up a few years ago, just in case I got it caught on something.

Super glue was invented for closing wounds docs even use it. After 35 years of fishing I still have all my fingers and I always wear my wedding ring, of course it is always on a strip of leather around my neck.

On December 29, 1965, I was the front seat passenger in a 1965 Ford sedan when my partner drove us head-on into a tree at about 40 mph. The impact broke my seat belt, I butted a hole in the windshield (thank goodness for the uniform cap that kept the cuts to a minimum), my feet were jammed hard into the floor and obviously both hands hit the dash. At the time, I was wearing a wedding band on my left hand and a class ring on the right. I'm very glad that someone at the hospital that night took those rings off. It was over a month before the swelling in my hands went down enough that I could get those rings back on. But I haven't worn any rings since, and have no intention of ever wearing one again.

If you ever get blisters on your heal, like from wearing new boots, use duct tape on your heal. I now put duct tape on before I hike, just to make sure I don't get blisters.

I haven't worn a ring since I accidentally welded one to the terminals of a small NI-CAD battery, those things can put out a ton of short circuit current... took ring to the gold-buyer, and never have nor never will put one on again. Same for metal watches, I used to wear a plastic watch, but since the cell phone became common, I don't need a watch either. Each to his own, but if you ever get a ring stuck on a battery somehow, you want it off real quick
