texjohn...

The list and hours would be impressive. Of course that was before children and old age! :)

Attached are the images.

Back story:
When we first bought and starting renovating the house I called local building inspector to get advice regarding the deck. Back then, if the deck did not attach to house and we weren't putting in a new doorway there was no need for a permit. Hence the slight space between deck and house - about 4". The previous deck was not attached to the house and over time racked. I will be placing in 45 degree ties with posts and horizontal supports to add strength as well. The pics show the connection of post to house - centre post. This one may stay but the two on either end of the deck will be reworked - they just look out of place and too big.

Thank you for the pics. I really appreciate it. How has it held up in the wind and winter time?

fb,

Sorry for not getting back to you. The whole structure can withstand the snow loads but I do get the kids to shovel it off- keeps them busy and reduces the snow load. Not problem with wind... we get some good size hurricanes up here...

lloyd,
Nice looking place. I have a friend in Hubbards who has restored a 100 year old house. I know how much work goes into it.
When I was 8 or 9 years old my dad took us to Lunenburg on a Saturday drive. He was facinated with the Bounty and wanted to see her under construction. Of course the shipyard was closed on Saturday, but he knocked on the side door of the building and a watchman let us in to have a look. At that point she was not much more than a keel and ribs. My dad has been gone 4 years now, but when we went thru his things we found 8mm film of the visit with my family walking amoung the ribs. One day I all have to get the film transferred to DVD so I can watch it again. No longer have a film projector. All the more important now that the Bounty is gone.

pj,

WOW! What a great find! Yes a sad and tragic loss of life and ship... could have been prevented. Sometimes it pays to knock on doors.

Later...

I like your staging. Reminds me of the time my dad stood a ladder on the hood of his car to get some extra height.
