A last look at my front wheel bearing adjustments showed that I need to replace the bearings. I am confused by the various places that sell these, as there are different part numbers shown. My tractor is SN 111130 (1956), and the front hubs show NCA-1106-A It has two cone bearings, and the hub has the outer bearing surfaces for the cone bearings machined onto itself, as far as I can tell. Or, is the outer bearing surface an insert and just looks like it is part of the hub?

Can anyone point at the part numbers for this situation? The New Holland parts page at Messicks only shows parts for a different hub number.

After cleaning out more of the Gunk Of Ages from inside the hubs (the whole interior cavity was filled with rusty greases of several shades), I saw that the outer bearing cups could be tapped out using notches in the casting. Well, more than tapping. I don't like to hit things so hard, but they did give up, and slid out.

Behold, legible part numbers! It looks like the CBPN1200B kit of parts applies.

Those numbers should help you out.

It stopped raining finally, so I was able to test things out a bit. I moved around some wood, and was happy not to be lifting them into the back of the truck, but just rolling them into the bucket.

One problem I had was that there was intermittent venting going on from the cooling system, although the engine was not overheating, apparently. I have seen the temp gage climb and fall in a way that should not be happening. No leaks in the system, so it went over pressure. I am going to drain it and check on the thermostat, which is my first guess. Perhaps it is stuck closed, or just not opening enough.

Otherwise, it's a working machine. testing.jpg

DO check the thermostat. Also check your coolant level, if you were low with a big bubble in there, it can cause similar issues.
