Dish does the same thing (as in sueing people) they were hacked up until recently as well....as for being unfair? I disagree. If You play then you pay, somehow these peoples names came up, it wasnt by chance. Ducati )</font>

I look at it this way. Everytime someone steals the code my bill that I honestly pay every month goes up. Someone has to pay for the pirates and I don't much care for it. If you want to watch TV then pay for it like the rest of the honest people. As far as Dish or Direct going after these people, they have the right to and should.

With every technology that is always a “techno geek” figuring out a way around it. Welcome to the mid the 1990. Tv is just one, so is MP3 (on p2p programs which they will never and CAN"T stop), copied software, etc. Everyone is always paying for the “floaters”. It is life. Look at health care; I pay double what I did 3 years ago for less coverage. I rest my case.

They should give you up to 6 or 8 receivers free.

Hey Danny,

I had DirecTV service (provided through Pegasucks /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) for about 4 1/2 years. I got tired of paying extra for Pegasus when DirecTV was offering the same packages only cheaper /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. Now that DirecTV lets people no matter where they live it would be better. The finaly deciding factor was the kids getting older (3 & 4) and wanting to watch more cartoons in their rooms. I wasn't real excited about having to buy 2 more receivers (I was an existing customer - no incentives to keep me /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif) at a cost $XXX + $5 per receiver. Two things finally made this possible Dish had started carrying the Columbus, OH lcoal channels also Dish new (at the time) dual receivers. We've got TV on 4 channels but only have 2 receivers - yes all 4 TVs can watch separate channels. This way we pay our base cost on the package + only $5 for the second receiver. Turned out a little cheaper than Pegasucks + got TV on 4 vs. 2. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Another thing - Dish had a thing where we didn't have to buy the equipment (it was a lease) but there are no lease fees, no contract, no install fee (well there was but they took it off your first months bill).

As far as quality/reliability. I installed the DirecTV myself. Can't tell a whole lot of difference in quality of picture. Sound I believe is a bitter better with Dish. As far as outages go. Neither were ever out more than a few minutes for the occasional heavy rain or snow. Either blew Adelphia's (our local cable provider - even though we can't get cable - it even runs across our property) digital service out of the water - though if we could get cable I would switch so I could get Adelphia's Powerlink and kiss our dial-up Internet service and home phone goodbye. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Comment on the insall - I "helped" the guy. Actually I think I did most of the work and provided all of the tools - including the cable stripper /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I wouldn't let them mount the dish to the house for the reasons stated above as well as we get pretty window. Didn't need a big wind deflector on top of the house constantly pulling and tugging. We drove a fence post in the ground about 8 - 10' from the house and buried the line and came in that way. Makes easy access when you have the occasional ice or snow storms that needs thawed. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Comment on the multiple dish - not needed any more. We have what they call their Super Dish. It is a bit larger than normal but it can receive signals from all of the Satellites that Dish has - at least for now.

Nope. About 7 or 8 years ago DirecTV (Hughes Satellite/GM) bought Primestar. Then about 2 or 3 years ago Hughes Satellite/GM sold DirecTV to News Corp/Robert Murdoch - these are the folks that own Fox TV, etc. Dish network at the time was trying to buy DirecTV but News Corp. is the one that finally won.

Dish Network purchased VOOM HD satellite TV service in January 05. VOOM customers still get all their service from VOOM. Dish is planning on using the VOOM Rainbow 1 satellite to expand their HD offerings. Currently Dish is a little behind DirecTV in HD offerings.

Hey guys, I'm with you completely. The people that steal SHOULD be caught. They deserve it.

In this case it isn't the point. They got a list of people who bought devices CAPABLE of writing the cards they were using in their machines. There were MANY other devices out that used those same cards that had NOTHING to do with digital TV. They still used those tactics to basically extort the money out of those people.

I don't deny that a fair number of the people who bought those writers probably WERE pirating digital TV. But I also guarantee that a fair portion of those people weren't. That is what was so very wrong with the whole thing.

As for raw prices, Dish is usually has the best prices if you get basic packages, and DirecTV is usually is better if you get the works.

I just saw an ad somewhere that stated something like 25 of the 50 (or so) channels on the Dish Network basic service are infomertial and shop at home networks. Who actually whatches this "poop?" /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've been running Directv for 10+ years now, with no issues. The equipment is cheap or free usually. Just got the local channal package last fall, and they came and put in the 2nd dish and 2 new recievers for free. (Very professional install on the dish.) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They just called last week to see if I wanted to switch back to their service. When I told them how many TVs I had, they said that they could not accomodate me (or even come close) to the price I'm paying now with cable. Gerard
