Relieving Hydraulic pressure on Third function implements prior to disconnecting the lines.

I'm still new at this and continue to have trouble connecting my 4 in 1 with flat faced couplers. I would try to do it in the morning when it's cold but yesterday it didn't work, nites are warming up?

I was worried about "cracking the nut loose and relieving the pressure". I had buckets, rags, wrenches everywhere, safety glasses and an adult diaper on.

Zero problems at all. Cracked the nut on one of the hoses, a tiny tiny bit of fluid came out, tightened it, no good. Gotta leave the nut cracked.

Easy peasy ....hopefully!

I need to install a bleed valve also, I'm just cracking open the fittings for now. The new fittings will need to be rated for hydraulic pressures so I don't grenade them.

The Waite tool from Ken’s hooks works to relive pressure on the implement side easily and safely on flat face connectors. Costs about as much as a pair of QDs. Even with jaws open and lines connected a 40* temp change can build up pressure.

If running the loader hard and changing buckets it’s sometimes hard to connect. Use a homemade clamp to gently squeeze the two QDs together. Doesn’t take much pressure just more I can do now.

With the HST tractors like the cleaner flat face QDs to help keep the fluid clean.

A couple of years ago, my brother sent me one of these tools. It works great for relieving the pressure built up in my attachments while they were stored. As Smokeydog mentioned, They are available from Ken's Bolt-on Hooks - just scroll down their Hydraulic Products section. My brother bought his and mine direct from the manufacturer. THere have been a couple of mentions of them over the years here on TBN. They work well.

Some other members have made their own clever pressure release threaded clamping devices made from scrap steel. Not complicated and small enough to fit in a tool box.

On eBay one seller has made a modified quick grip bar clamp for QDs. Again not hard for the tractor community to make.

I had a heck of a time when I first got my grapple. Using the method of leaving the grapple about 1/2 open, shutting off the tractor, turning on the ignition and activating the 3rd function switches has worked for the past 18 months.

If I run into any more issues I will invest in a tool to relieve the pressure.
