Surprised at the replies thought for sure someone would of said it was a stupid question lol. My wife does not work so that is out of the question lol. Never heard of big semi being started remotely but I am sure someone will think or have already did on inventing a remote start for diesel motors cause there sure are a lot of them out. Money maker for sure. I have remote start on my two vehicles and love them winter or summer.

Hey guys just came back from googling remote start for diesel engines and Auto Start, Pro Start makes them and a couple of other companies too. They advise to have these installed by a professional remote installer. One feature that I saw was that there is a button on the remote that you push and your diesel engine will start every 2 hours during the night and run for a short time so when you wake up the inside will be warm and if there was any freezing rain then no worry about scrapping ice etc. So they are available.

I don't know about the value of a remote starter on a tractor. IIRC mine on my SUV cost over $1000 installed. I would have a hard time justifying that cost on a tractor since most times you aren't in that big of a hurry to use it vs just starting it up and having a second or third cup of coffee while it warms up and how many times per year will you be using it. It would have to be a daily use thing to even start to justify the cost.

1,000 man that is expensive for that price I can get installed on 3 vehicles. I installed one on my Tacoma TRD Sport for 245.00 and then another on my Venza cross over for another 245.00 no ****. Both vehicles where loaded with every option available. Not sure why yours would cost that much. I will look into having one put on my tractor cause to me it is worth it. As you get older it gets hard to go out into the colds and start the tractor up for removing snow. just sayin.
Besides I think it would be easier to install on a tractor not as much wiring and alarm bypass. Would be pretty straightforward for any installer. The price would still be 245.00 installed. Probably would have pay a little to come to the house and do it if they can on a diesel compact tractor.

+1 on a block heater. A block heater will give quick heat as well as reduce engine wear. Plus it's way cheaper and safer (no need to override safeties). You just need to power the heater a couple hours before you need to use the tractor, a good job for a timer or remote switch.

I have a block heater and never used. Tractor starts pretty good -30C (-5 F) here in Canada. Might have to warm the glow plugs a few times but other than that she starts good.

We have a VW TDI and you can start it and let it sits for an hour and it won't generate any heat until you start down the road with some load on the engine, yes they would generate some heat but only enough to thin the oil a bit. Is it worth the money, everyone's opinion will be different. I assume on a tractor, depending on the type (clutch type), the clutch would need to be engaged to have the hydraulics running to help present a load and at least have the hydraulic oil circulating. I'm not sure on the (clutchless) electro-operated hydraulic type tractors how the hydraulic pump is disengaged if at all. My best guess would be to have both engine and hydraulic oil warmed somewhat before pulling away. Cold hydraulics don't sound very good let alone what it may do to the pump and other components over time. I go out, open one shed door then start my Kioti, then go open and latch the other door, throw the ball for the dogs, then putter around for a minute or two or five depending on the temperature then jump on and go. My two cents

In reality, a cold start (though I firmly believe in and use a block heater) is fine and just start off slow. Then you are doing work with the fuel spent instead of just burning fuel and washing the cylinder walls.

I have remote start (factory) on my Cummins and it works great. Preheats the motor, then only starts it a little later. If it is warm out it starts within 5-10 seconds but in the winter you can hit the button and it can be 30 or more seconds before it starts it up. Wish I had it for my tractor!
