Remote Hydraulic Hoses

Why are you guys using 1/2" hoses to feed a small 2x8 cylinder on a grapple? 1/4" or 3/8" at the most is all that's needed, its cheaper and easier to route also.

I ran 1/2" for future use. At some point I want to buy or build a hydraulic post hole digger and figured I'd need 1/2".

After reading this and seeing the pictures I had to laugh a bit. I just went through this, checked NAPA, Discount hydraulics (poor help in my opinion), spent hours finding the correct couplers. Hands down finding Brian at Fit Right was a blessing, You can check out my post on my install if you have questions.

Warning about going with the CHEAP stuff: It will bight you in the end. I could not be happier with the quality of the materials provided by Brian, and his service support is top notch....and no he is not paying me to do this.

Hmm - in looking at your pic I see you have your lines terminating to some sort of a plate with the quick connects mounted to that. My layman's idea was just to run the hoses to the front and connect them directly to the grapple hoses - is that wrong?

Also - I got a call back from the hydraulic shop and they said for two hoses, with appropriate male connectors on one end to attach to the rear remote and a male/female to connect to the grapple hoses, at 17 feet, would cost me over $500.00! Maybe I am na?e but that sounds a little steep for two hoses - that is almost the cost of the brand new grapple! Am I off base here or does that sound right? If it is right, I may have to sell my grapple as it won't do me any good sitting around.

Get you hoses here: Surplus Center

Rear QD on the tractors on are 1/2 inch AG's also known as ISO-5675 The flat face 1/2 inch are known as ISO 16028

ISO 5675 Agricultural Hydraulic Quick Couplers

ISO 16028 Flushface Hydraulic Quick Couplers

I used 1/2 inch, but if I had it to do over I would use 3/8 hoses with adaptors and some 3/8 connectors in the middle to make it easier to take the loader off. I uses 1/2 inch there too, but they are kinda big.

All told, I had about $150 in hoses and connectors

I had the same thoughts, and ran 1/2, but I doubt I ever do it.. 3/8 is a lot easier to run than 1/2

One advantage to using one male and one female up front is you will not mix up the directions of the open and closure of the lid, and has one other advantage, it allows you to plug the grapple hoses together in storage so you don't get dirt on/in the ends.

And, I do both of those things on mine...
