We have painted concrete board on the outside of the house. Occasionally, I’ll find a mud wasp nest and break it apart.

Unfortunately , there always remains a good part that sticks to the board. Anyone have idea on how to remove the last mud?

Water from a Power Washer.. :D

Seriously, if you are worried a pressure washer will damage the paint, try a strong stream from a hose and/or lightly scrub with a outdoor broom and a little soap.

Or just leave it another will along shortly to build there again.

We get them frequently under the eves of our textured vinyl siding. The remnants of the nest are indeed tough to remove. If you don't remove it all, the wasps quickly build a new nest in the same spot. I use a Rotox nozzle on my pressure washer, which does a good job. Might be tough on a painted surface though.

They make brushes for washing vinyl siding that might be less aggressive on your paint than using a pressure washer.

Usually, mud-daubers get their mud supply nearby. Like the condensate drain from the A/C etc. I sprinkle a little bit of Sevin dust on those spots and it helps knock their numbers down.

Strong water stream for removing the nest remnants.

I usually just rub them away. Either with my fingers, or a stiff brush. It might not get 100% of the dirt, but it's enough that it doesn't bother me anymore.

Am I the only one who likes the mud wasps? We deal with so many nasty yellow jackets and bald-faced hornets, that I find the black mud wasps downright docile and entertaining. I just leave them alone, they don't seem to be a huge problem around here.

Yellow jackets are the only ones I eradicate on-sight. I hate those bastards. Other wasps and hornets are treated depending on the location they've chosen to build. For example, inside our patio umbrellas is a forbidden zone. :D

No problem with Mud Daubers, but on the other hand; Yellow Jackets and Bold Face hornets get eradicated as soon as possible (unless the nest is too big... means I didn't find them in time  )

My issue with daubbers is that you can't leave a bolt-hole open for any length of time without them plugging it up.
Sure, but a few seconds with a garden hose cleans it out with no trouble.

I've had those mud wasps fill the key hole on my tractor. Clean it out - spray it full of WD-40.

I got a couple pictures and a video of this one leading a “zombie drugged” spider to the nest so it can be eaten by wasp larvae. Pretty crazy.

That sounds more like a leaf cutter bee. In my experience, mud daubers (and bees) are rather particular about the size hole that they want.

All the best,

Peter

Cicada Killer wasps look threatening but they have never come after me.

We have a lot of those, I often find them hibernating when digging. We also have more cicadas on our property than the rest of the surrounding area, and I've never understood why. When we hit those rare double-brood years (2021?), you can't walk outside or mow the lawn without wearing a few of them.

Yesterday - I killed a couple wasp like things. Smaller than a yellow jacket - totally jet black - not a bit fuzzy or hairy. First time I've seen these things.
