Removing Wallpaper?

Kent, I don’t know a ton about wall paper---never cared for it, although there is some nice stuff out there---are you planning on papering again? If so, I understand, depending on the original paper, if it is still adhering well you can paper over the existing. Then you can just drink the beer, call it a done project and let your wife put new paper up. That would work for me. ./w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

If you can get your wife to drink enough of the beer, maybe she will no longer care what the wallpaper looks like and you won't have to change it at all. THEN, you can take the money saved from not having to buy New wallpaper and put it towards a new tractor implement.
Merely a thought, and if asked, I will Disavow any knowledge of ever having made such a suggestion.

Ain't going to EVER get into that wallpaper thing again! We bought a historic home, and in restoring it, found some walls with as many as 11 layers of wall paper. some of the wood trim had 17 coats of paint! what a chore to get that old critter back into shape! Buy the beer, and hire someone!

better idea, hire a carpenter to put up panelling or bead board...then drink a beer

I'm grateful for all the suggestions. The only thing I'm happy with is the Beer. I can handle that one. I will tell a small story about my wife and wallpaper though. I was off work with a back injury, about 5-6 years ago, and my wife decided to wallpaper our living room. We decided on a 2 foot border at the top with the rest of the wall being another design. Also we bought molding for between, and above the paper. After 3 hours of watching my wife put up 2 of the two foot sections of paper., I decided to take over. I finished the room in about four hours completely. I'm not a pro at this , but I agonized over watching her do it (badly). I think everyone understands my problem. It me or the beer. I'm betting the the beer. Thanks guys. Kent

PS I like the hire a carpenter idea, and the paneling, but my wife would make me remove that after about 5 years.

When we brought this place it had some of the world's ugliest wallpaper. The wallpaper was on the second story of a cathedral ceiling. We set up the ladders and scored the paper. Then we used the paste enzyme. Waited and then scraped. Very slow going and hard work.

My wife got fed up and brought a Wagner steamer for 50 bucks from Walmart. Well the steamer worked great. Much faster than the enzyme. But one BIG caveat. The enzyme actually destroys the glue. The steamer only softens it. So as we scraped the paper fell on the floor, ladders, the dogs, etc. Then it hardened back up and stuck fast. So we created twice as much work.

So use the steamer but be sure and use a dropcloth. Also when finished we washed the walls with enzyme to get rid of all the glue.
