It wouldn't be the first time the USAF got something wrong

Bumper sticker from Roswell "UFO'S are real, the Air Force doesn't exist" :D

I had several personal experiences with the USAF getting something wrong. One was electrical safety shoes. My outfit worked around lethal voltages so one of our fearless leaders got us electrical safety shoes. Unfortunately they were designed to short the user to ground to drain off static charges to avoid explosions in dusty coal mines, paint booths, and other situations where static electricity build up could trigger an explosion.

Luckily I noticed AND READ the tag inside the shoe explaining how they were to be tested for conductivity and giving examples of work areas where they were appropriate. When I brought this to the attention of the guy who ordered them by throwing them at him from a distance of over 50 ft. He was too embarrassed to return them so it was recommended we take them home and wear them to work on our cars and such. They did have steel caps in the toes.

SpiderGuy, You may have to set up a 12 step program or series of lessons with lab to explain it to me because I didn't get it before and now I am having trouble with my browser settings. I'm not sure but I think I found the problem that caused me to only get...

I found a SYSADMIN browser setting //BSFILTER = ON//

Pat ; ;)

You know what happens when the notch filter is adjusted wrong.

Spyder dude, I have to say that I was on the opposite side of the argument until I read your very thorough argument. It makes perfect sense now. Thank you for the excellent explanation.

Now, I just have to un-learn yet another habbit to do it "the right way". :D

Jimmer, I'm glad I had the opportunity to elicit sufficient response from Spydy so that his clear, concise, and complete coverage of the matter could disambiguate any areas needing additional clarification in order to win you over to the side of truth justice and the American way!

Spydy for president!!!!

I think the intent of the thread was repair/tricks/tips for mechanical/maintenance type machinery and things around the home. But now that I think of it, a rock/board/hammer taken to some of the slackers in congress/digress might actually be of some benefit, most especially in the hands of someone who knows how to use them correctly.:D

Theres a lot more info in the why than there is in the fact itself. I dont know whether you, or any, even know what I think about the wrench subject. Noone but Skyco and myself has done anything but parrot contrary posits without explanatory reasoning. Excellent tactic. Does anybody actually know anything? It would be nice to be able to tell.

Whoa! Didn't mean to start such a controversy and divide the ranks:confused:
I've been absent from the ensuing debate about my Crescent Wrench (adjustable wrench) post because for some strange reason this thread wasn't showing up in my "since last visit" list. Maybe a good thing:rolleyes:
My original reasoning still stands in my mind even though some of the "expert" resources I've tracked down advise doing it the other way.
So- 99% of the time it doesn't make a difference which way you turn it, the other 1% when you really have to apply high torque to an adjustable wrench, well....

So here is my current puzzling over GearWrenches and like ...
They have gotten the angle required to move it and reset it down really small, much better than the original version.
Everyone knows that a 6 point box end, or socket, is much less likely to round off a fastener than a 12 point wrench- right? Can we agree on that?:)

So why do all the GearWrenches and clones I see come with a 12 point "socket" on the box end? Makes no sense to me..they turn on really small angle increments now so placing it with the desired orientation on the fastener isn't a problem. I just don't get it:eek:

Skyco, I sent you a P/M with my observations of what is happening on the Crescent.

[[[ On the gearwrench, I think that would be to make the wrench as versatile as possible and limit the level of possible abuse from using it on a severely undersized nut. You can break it loose with a fixed 6pt. The 12Pt profile gearwrench will effectively then turn 6, 12, and, with lucky sizing correspondence, 4 pt nuts.

Yep- I got the Pm.
Well...12 point nuts and bolts are pretty darn rare in my experience ;) I'd prefer a 6 point and in fact DO have a few 6 point Gear Wrench type wrenches...don't recall at the moment who made them.
Now if I can just track down that ever elusive metric hammer not the common 16 ounce but a slightly large 1/2 kilogram one.
