Measure twice cut once, marvel mystery oil works good on rusty things also ,kerosene to remove the sticky from adhesives on plastic and painted objects, vise grips on shafts of screw drivers, chisels, punches help to hold in tight places.Electrical tape when you make a booboo, and bleed when you don't have a band aid.Just some of the few things I've learned.

I read a post earlier on one of the tractor specific threads about splitting plastic tubing or small vacuum and or rubber hose. Drill a hole in a piece of wood a little larger than tubing, then drive a single edge razorblade into the wood so the end is sticking halfway into opening. Pre-split the end of tubing, feed through hole and pull. Will split a long piece quickly and safely.

For those that like MMO, but not it's price, mix cheap-o ATF fluid and some kerosene, and you get a fluid that works 95% as good as mmo.. etc. For 25% of the cost.

Way back when I was pumping gas at a truck stop, some truckers used to dump a quart of ATF on the fuel tank as injector cleaner. I was told that ATF has a lot of detergent in it. I usually top my engine up with a litre of ATF the week before I change the oil.

Whenever attaching or removing a shaft from the PTO shut the engine off and pocket the key.

Never wear clothing made of synthetic material when doing hot work. Cotton turns to ash, synthetics melt into the skin.

After attaching hydraulic hoses to the manifold put the dust covers together to keep them clean.

Always clean and put away your tools when done with them.

I have an old Taylor brand pull behind brush hog that has odd sized implement wheels on it. One of the wheels was rusting out around where the valve stem comes out and kept cutting tube. I dismounted tire, cleaned up area with wire brush and put a small piece of 1"x1" flat iron over hole and welded it up. Took a drill and drilled a new hole opposite of welded up spot on wheel, installed tubeless tire valve stem, put tire back on and I am back in business. NOT recommended for repairs on vehicle tires due to balancing issues.

My dad taught me this years ago; when the threads in a hole become worn out so that the scew will not fit just break a few toothpicks or matches off into the hole. The wood fills in the stripped threads and causes the screw to tighten up in the hole. This also works well when u lose or can not find a large enough screw during emergency situations. Break off sticks, toothpicks, pine needles, matches, paper, etc.... into the hole and insert screw. Works for metal or wood applications and will hold forever.
