Would like your thoughts on a dealer repair issue. I dropped off two Polaris quads. The 4 stroke 425 had two known problems to be worked on. I used the 2 stroke 300 to push it onto the trialer. The 2 stroke seemed to be shifting funny when engaged in 4WD so I left it also. I told the dealer I wanted the 425 fixed first. I needed one for winter chores and the 425 is a little stronger. After about a month, I contacted the dealer about the 2 stroke. His mechanic said they tore the siezed engine apart! I told him it was running when I brought it in and they were to check out the transmission. He claimed it seized while they were working on it. They wanted an extraordinary amount (>$1000) to rebuild the engine. I told them not to do anything to it and I'd pick it up. I had to pay about $100 to get it back in boxes. I took it to a mechanic who I trust and asked him to reassemble it for me in his spare time. A few weeks later he called to say the cylinder was not in the boxes. I contacted the dealer. After several calls, the mechanic said they accidentally sent the cylinder (the only evidence of the siezing) out to be bored out and forgot to tell me. Now I'll have to pay for the boring and for an oversized piston. This seems incredible to me. Am I over reacting? Would you just pay for the parts and be done with it?

I don't know about PA but in alot of states you are not responsible for any repairs that you did not authorize. I would be madder than heck if I was you. For a $1000 you could buy a new engine!!

Bite the bullet now, move your business elsewhere and send the loser dealer a copy of the transactions that he lost out on with HAHAHAHAHA written across them.

His big mistake was not letting you know about the siezed engine before they tore it apart.

Well i guess i would start by calling polaris. give them a piece of your mind and i mean really let them have it. tell them your going everywhere you can and tell your story.
maybe they will get after this dealer.

The next thing i would do is call a lawyer, the BBB, and your states attorney general and look at those avenues. Hey your attorney calling the dealer may solve it quick and may not cost much at all.

Then hopefully you will get this resolved easily on your bank account and as soon as you get them running sell those two polaris's and buy something alot more dependable!

Personnally if they gave me a polaris i would trade it in on a honda or a kubota rtv. i would not have a polaris product!

Sounds like a cock and bull story to me. I bet they needed a jug for someone else's machine.

Would not returning all the parts be construed as theft and leave them open to an inditable offence??

Exactly what I'm thinking. Are there any numbers that can be matched back to the VIN to see if they pulled a switch?

Have your kids stand out front on Saturday with signs protesting the repairs they make. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Back in California, a guy was really mad at the Ford dealer and did just that. He and his family spent every weekend pickiting the dealership for about two months.

Nobody would tell me what he was so mad about, and I never asked him either. But the sales people sure were unhappy about what he'd done to buisiness.

I doubt the jug has serial numbers on it. The engine block would. I would make them replace what they took off at no charge. The machine was running when you brought it in. What caused it to seize up on them? Did they beat the heck out of it? Here's what I thnk happened. I think they stole the your jug for another job. Then sent the other jug out to be bored for your machine. They figured they had plenty of time and the other guy needed his machine right away. I had a Honda dealer steal fuel injectors off a new car so I could have my car back when it was under warranty.
