just figured out i was not replying correct ... I have the same issue, found spring in bottom of case it is broke, and was exactly as you said kinda up and to the front right side as you sit on tractor, pump appears complete no parts broke off and levers above are all attached... did you figure out where it came from?

Hi Barry,

Yep, I found where the spring came from. It goes in the control valve. You’ll need to remove the hydraulic pump, and if you look at the front right side, there should be a c-clip that holds that spring inside the pump/control valve. It’s likely that water got in the trans case at some point and rusted out the c-clip which caused the spring to pop out.

If everything else looks to be in working order, you might get away with putting the spring back, replacing the c-clip and putting it back together.

But while you’ve got it all apart, now is a great time to refurbish the pump and make adjustments if necessary.

Edit: here’s an exploded view of the pump, control valve, and spring:

wow! thats it. nice manual also. thank you so much for responding i was not expecting a reply so quick (or at all some forums) this helps a lot. I was afraid it might be something else inside the housing or from above cylinder controls. I think i am going to just pop on a built one for 200 bucks now that i know the spring and parts were from old pump as mine looks rough, i think it will still work but the parts alone for rebuild are close to the cost of a built one. if i could only get the old 23c engine to crank with starter now and not need someone to pull me off id be really in good shape lol
thanks again

Hey Barry,

I have the factory service and parts manuals for my machine, bought them through AGCOpubs.com I believe. Very worthwhile. I also found an old factory service manual for my loader, the JD25A flail mower, and my old 6’ McKee snowblower on eBay. (Factory original manuals, not repops)

Well worth the effort to track them down. Stay away from the I&T manuals, you’re better off with the factory manuals.

I ended up rebuilding my pump because I enjoy stuff like that. Would have been MUCH less effort to just replace it.

Have you tried to jump the solenoid? Make sure it’s NOT IN GEAR. If you can just jump the solenoid then that’s an easy fix to wire up a start button.

I wired a keyswitch to mine, but it failed after three years. Now I just have an on/off switch and a starter button. Much easier. Flip switch up, press button, engine fires.
