Replace Dust Cover

What would be the easiest way to replace part #60, a dust cover on the front steering linkage? Also is there a special tool available for the retaining rings (they are sort of like a giant key ring). Kubota L5030 MFWD.

Looks like just a regular external snap ring. You'll need a snap ring pliers to take it off/on. They are cheap, you can get one for under 20 bucks.

The hardest part of the job may be removing the ball joint, which is shown as the 020 assembly on the drawing. I recently changed a dust cover similar to the one you need to change, on my Kubota B2910. The one end of the dust cover is held on by something different than a snap ring on my tractor...actually I forgot to put it on, but was able to thread it on after the job was done...hard to explain.

Anyway I was not able to get the ball joint out, until a friend lent me a lever type tie rod ball joint remover too. Then it was a piece of cake.

This may help, or you may not need something like this at all. Try to get the ball joint out and see. I understand that if you hit the socket holding the ball joint with two hammers, one on each side, it may just pop free. Did not for me...but this tool made the job easy... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

snap ring pliers and a brass hammer would work. i got mine off by leaving the nut still on the ball joint and giving it a little encouragement with a brass hammer. then remove the nut .
I would mark the rod that your removing or count turns to remove and then put it back on by turning it the same amount of threads. this keeps every thing the way it was .
