Replacing a wheel motor - need to prime it?

I've spent a couple of months working on my ZTR (http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/lawn-garden/151256-pump-fix-snapper-simplicity-mf.html ) and have a replacement wheel motor on the way. I think I damaged the wheel motor when the pump failed and I drove it into the garage. So I want to be careful when I install the new motor.

What do I need to do when I install the motor? Do I fill the hoses with fluid? Do I attempt to spin the wheel by hand to prime it?

Any advice appreicated. Thanks!

Yes, go ahead and prime the motor. You can spin it by hand until you fill it. The motor will not turn under power, until it receives fluid anyway. The pump is the main thing. Always prime the pump. It only takes a few seconds of ruining before it destroys itself.
Jack the wheels off the ground while testing.

There may be small bits and particles from the pump, still in the hose. You could pull a lint free rag through the hose to help clean them out or flush the hoses with water and air.

They do make high pressure filters, but it would get expensive to install 4 of them.
