I live in southern Maine. Ground has a lot of clay, some slopes , I plan on putting in a walkway and patio so I would like to be able to move around a pallet of pavers. Im trying to post some pictures but Im having a hard time finding where I am supposed to go to do so ?

Our L5740STC would not pick up a pallet of Pave Stone paver, had to use our M8540HDC.

Personally, I would save money and buy either a B2650 or a smaller L series and take the extra money to rent a skid steer or full size backhoe for a couple days to do the major work. You will also have money left to buy implements. Finish grading and long term maintenance of the property won’t take as big a tractor as you are looking at to do it. A smaller tractor will get into places a big one won’t and won’t tear the lawn up. A smaller tractor will take a little longer to do some of your initial tasks, but will be more useful in the long run keeping the property up.

A ton of advice...as usual. A lot of good points. It's your tractor and you can work at your pace. Sometimes it will be worth hiring/renting something bigger or more featured (like a rock rake to prep for grass). 90-96" snow plow is a fair size. A box blade for counter balance is helpful. You may find a good use for a grapple. I'd keep my eye out for a decent used snow blower for larger storms if you get them. I also have 60" forks, chipper, York Rake, and a rock rake (Harley rake). I have a post hole digger (PHD) which the M7060 will run and use it on my excavator (I have a plate to run the SSQA tools). From what I have rear don't get overly excited about the PTO PHD as the exciting is erased when you get an auger stuck. They make units which will run on either tractor you are looking at. The tools all have their uses and picking the right one can make the job go a lot quicker.

I have a L4240 no cab which I am trading for a M7060 with cab (was looking at the M6060, but its a no brainer to go up to the M7060). I think cab a non debate topic. Next is size...I wish I had a heavier tractor for plowing. My tractor weighs about 3500 lbs. (The M7060 is over 5000 lbs) plus loaded tires and I normally have a box blade with weights and chains (good Tyrgg chains) for plowing. Straight is good, but cornering is not so good. I run R1 tires and will run the radial R1 tires on the M7060. I have some heavy pallets of 42" wood for my outdoor boiler...with wet wood they max out my loader. The radial R1s will be nice for this, otherwise I would run R4 tires if I stayed with a Grand (looked at the L6060).

My Dad has a B3000 with a cab. Nice tractor which he uses on a small area. It definitely is no where near the L4240. The L4240 is my 3rd tractor and I find myself maxing out the loader often enough that with the desire for a cab is also the opportunity for a stronger loader.

I would think that you would be happy with the L4760 and find the HST very useful. It sounds like your space may find the M6060 not as smooth to run. In the case of the L Grands I think I would run the R4 tires as the R1 tires are pretty small. I run my chains year round. With the L4760 you get the larger loader (I have the larger loader for my era of tractor). The difference with the M6060 is not huge, but will make a difference if you want to handle pallets or large rocks. Mine does pretty good with loading logs for the sawmill, which is my more common loader work.

I found the PTO power to be sufficient. I find the 3pt hitch to be sufficient (I would like a little more tractor size for the logging winch, but it is ok). I have enjoyed the Kubota a lot, just looking for a cab and a little larger loader capacity. I would recommend a reversible cutting edge on the bucket and a removable toothed bar they make a difference while digging and the edge helps with the strength of the bucket.

Good luck,

Mike

I personally think those machines are grossly oversized for that property.

You could almost certainly be better off with something in the 35HP or less range.

I have to agree here. I have a bx2200, a b2650 and used to have a l3940. I have 2 ac. The 3940 was mostly used on hunting property. It was definitely too big to use around the home causing lawn damage and was tough to maneuver between buildings, trees and fences. The b2650 is a good fit for a small place, but is very lightweight. However, it's too big to do a great job mowing. The bx2200 is great for mowing, but the ground clearance and small 3 pt hitch make it hard to use in the garden. I'd be looking at a big B or a small L with turfs for 2 1/2 ac unless you are looking to to expand your property or will be using it somewhere else. Hire out the big earth moving project. With the right equipment, that can be done in a day.

Thank you everyone for all the great advice and insight. I wish I could say I have made up my mind but based on everything I have learned I would say I am more confused at this point ! I think the thing I am struggling with the most is the fact that the L4760 is $1,000 more than the M but you are getting way more hp, steel, and tractor with the M. It still just doesn't add up. I must be missing something ? Also does anyone know first hand if the m6060 with r4 tires would fit under an 8 foot garage door ?

The Grand series tractor have more 'luxury' type features and it has the nice transmission.

The Grand series is a deluxe compact tractor. The M series is farm tractor. You can get many nice features on the M Series, but they are designed for utility type work (farming).

The Grand L4760 is the high end compact tractor. The M6060 is the low end utility tractor (not low quality, but low on the line, you have the M6060, M4 series, M5 series, M6 series, M7 series all from the 'M' line), which is still a much bigger tractor than the Grand. The M series goes up to the 130+HP designed for farming.

Sorry I keep editing my response, you are looking at two different classes of tractors, compact verses utility. Both have overlapping features and abilities when you get to the top of one line (Grand series) and start at the bottom of another line (M Series).
