Beautiful project, and well documented. My only minor thought was that I think I'd take the engine to a dyno shop and have them break it in and tune it before putting in. You have far too many $$$ and time invested to chance screwing it up in the last step.
Do you have any expectatins as to what kind of qiarter-mile times you expect?

I talked to a local shop that has an engine dyno, and he said he has a two week backlog and wants $500-$1000 depending on how many pulls it takes.
The shop that I bought the block from has a chassis dyno that I will probably take it to, he gets $150 for three pulls.
Inquiring minds want to know!👍🏻
Not sure, but I'm not going to take it to a track and run it. I just want to drive it on the street.
A couple of online calculators estimated the HP at 475-500, so with the proper tires and tune, I would guess in the mid twelves, which is what my '69 L78 Nova ran.

Now that Oceola is closed, where's the nearest track anyway? Martin, MI or Bunker Hill, IN, I'd guess.

As for the Suburban... I really love my 2003. It was such a step up from the 1995 style. So comfortable and a nice, tight steering compared to the wobble wagon. Our's seats 7. I usually keep the rear seat folded down and tipped forward. Plenty of room for stuff. I brought home everything for our 24x24 garage addition inside of the 1995 Suburban except for the rebar, siding and roof trusses. Great choice VS a pickup truck if you have a trailer. (we have an 18' car hauler with side and front boards).

Anyhow, not to derail thread. Thanks for the updates on the engine. (y)

Yes, Martin in Michigan and Bunker Hill are the two closest drag strips that I know of.
I had called the salesman and told him I was on the way to the dealer to test drive the Suburban with a check in my pocket, five minutes away, when the salesman called me back and said it had been sold, so I'm still looking.

Good luck. We bought our 2003 about 3 years ago out in Oklahoma. Pretty solid underneath. A bit of surface rust on the frame. And some rust rust on the rockers. Has 195,000 on it. Just had the water pump replaced.

Sorry I haven't posted any updates for a while, but one of my sisters passed away two weeks ago, and I had my other sister and daughter staying with me last week, so I had no time for other things.
The sister that passed had been in really poor health for years. She had had four back surgeries that left her in constant pain, liver failure form a lifetime of alcohol consumption, COPD from years of smoking, and also kidney failure. Her last days were hard to watch her decline, but at least now she's out of pain and at peace.
She made her SIL promise to spread some of her and her husband's ashes in the ocean at the resort in Jamaica that they visited a couple of times a year when he was alive. It was their favorite place to vacation, soak up some sun and rum.

She was the third cousin on my mother's side of the family to pass in the last two months.

But, life goes on for the rest of us.

Stay tuned...
