I was wondering if someone would post about BT's comment on Kubota "plastic". It is interesting, when I was looking at tractors, the JD's had plastic hoods and fenders. It was a proud selling point that the dealers were making a big deal about. I (like BT) didn't like the look and feel of plastic on a tractor and went with the all steel hood and fenders on the Kubota.
Have the tables turned and are JD's now metal hoods & fenders and Kubota's gone to the plastic side? I didn't think that would happen, but haven't been keeping up to date on the latest and greatest.
BT, I also strongly agree with you --> John Deere "gets it" when it comes to the 5000 series tractors. Well designed, built and priced affordably. It looks like competition has pushed them. Just too bad they are having to import and not build here...
Then again, last job I was at we looked at expansion in China and decided against it due to the labor costs being too high. Companies are expanding in India as the country is pro-West, english speaking and cheaper than China with a better eduacted work force.

Maybe the larger Kubota Tractors have gone with the plastic fenders/hood, I don't know, I haven't looked at them except from a distance. My tractor is an
L3130, 2006 model. It has only a little plastic on it, almost entirely metal. The 2007 model of my tractor changed cosmetically, with a few other small changes (according to my dealer). It's not 3130 anymore, but 3240. I saw one, but didn't go up and do a "touchy feely" on it to see if it's plastic or metal. Some people don't like plastic, it's lightweight and I have heard it's prone (in some applications) to cracking and warping, but will "bounce" back from a ding or dent, unlike metal. On the other side of the coin, some don't like metal...corrosion, heavier and once it bends or dings, it's bent or dinged for good. To each his own I reckon...it's what makes the world tick.
As for JD closing it's Augusta plant and moving to India, that's a shame for the workers in GA, but I guess if they want to stay competitive, they have to go where they can shave points off the price (through cheaper labor overhead). The Indians are great workers and yes, education is a priority there. I am in the I.T. business, we have several Indian programmers. Great people and by nature aren't "terroristic", nor do they believe it's their religion or you must be killed! They are all alright in my book!
This thread was originally about Mahindra before it was "hijacked" 7 ways from Sunday (I guess I'm guilty a little myself). However, to get back on tangient, I looked at the Mahindra's, thinking I was gonna get a really quality tractor at a price cheaper than Kubota or JD. Well, the quality (I feel) is there, but the price was as high as a comparable Kubota. I'm not kidding, the dealer in MY area is really expensive with his Mahindra's. So, upon the advice of a farmer friend of mine, I went Kubota. The Japanese engine and engineering coupled with the fact that the only parts not made in Japan by Kubota on the tractor (from what I have been told on this forum) are the RIMS...whoopety doo, the stinking rims. Anyhow, I like there loyalty to their brand.
Have a good day JohnBud
